TL;DR - When I try to enter Solitude now, it says "You must help soldiers defend the city before you can enter!"



So, in the quest "Battle for Solitude" in the Stormcloak questline, I encountered a glitch that pretty much messed up my game. I play on Xbox 360.


In the quest you're supposed to protect Solitude from a siege, or attack it yourself (Don't know which since I pretty much skipped the siege part by accident).. Somehow, however, I managed to get into the city before the siege started, killing all the imperials in the city and in the end, killing general Tullius. Then I listened to Ulfric's speech and left solitude.. Now that save is stuck with the combat music playing ALL the time, and Solitude is on fire from the outside.



This also messed up my Dark Brotherhood quest "The silence has been broken", since Astrid refuses to talk to me before I "End the mess I started in Solitude"

That sounds pretty horrible.

Only thing I can think of is reloading an earlier save, if you have tried that already then I'm really sorry but I think your screwed.

Unfortunately I have overwritten my previous saves, so I would have to go back like 10 levels to get back to the point of the battle...

Why is this so impossible for Bethesda to fix in an update?

Even if it was fixed in an update that would likely only affect new games, not the ones already displaying the bug

There might be one option go to another Hold, wait for at least 30 days and then going back and see if it's better.
