Brightness

Anyone try playing the game with the Brightness setting all the way down? I have to use a torch or Candlelight to see where I'm going at night or in dungeons. It's really neat

On my HDTV, never dark. Dad hates the Xbox 360 in the family room, brought te 360 into my room, using a tube TV now not an HDTV and caves are always dark. eh.

Yes. It's cool using torches and light spells. Also I hate the default brightness, too much bright.

I have tried out several mods that make the game darker in both Oblivion and Skyrim. It just isn't very fun for me. I don't enjoy squinting into my monitor. It gives me a headache.

I use a mod that makes the game an order of magnitude dimmer. You can't see two feet in front of you at night, and it's rainy and dreary during the day most of the time. Fits Skyrim, IMO.

Carrying a torch is almost a requirement.

Keep it at default, a lot of places are really dark on my TV screen.

I actually roll with the brightness all the way up. Even on default brightness I have to use spells or torches to see, and still have to squint quite a bit. After about a half hour of that I get a headache from the squinting so I cranked the brightness and have loved it ever since.

I run a light mod that does just that, but without making the days or bright areas much darker. With the mod, you *need* torches since most caves are now really dark.

This. Never been a big fan of "Dark Darkness" mods. I actually find it dark enough out of the box - light enough to be able to appreciate the architecture/etc, but there's still places where light spells/torches are useful to pick out details (like loot in dark corners).

Of course, it also depends on the calibration & color profile of your monitor or TV. The default game doesn't look quite the same to everyone.

I am smitten by the "pitch black" mods. It really makes the game intense. I am on a 47" HDTV so everything is big but very spooky. I enjoy being forced to use a light source.

I recently installed RCRN and it's absolute darkness. I even went into the CK and reduced the radius of a torch, from the default of 512 to 250. It gives the torch the diameter of about 20', which is closer to RL for that size of flame.

I played through several well known Dwemer ruins and it was like playing them for the first time. I knew the spider worker was around the corner and I heard him come out...but I couldn't see him until he was right on top of me. Great fun indeed.

And Draugr? You must follow the glow of the eyes....
