Mages Type

Post » Wed Jul 11, 2012 7:54 pm

I'm sure you've all heard of multiple mages and necromancers throughout the game. Most of them had unique spells and magic. Why isn't it possible for the playing character to have a certain special magic or a spell that would be different from the standard, generic spells?

I mean,if I'm playing a mage type of character,there should be a sense of acomplishment when I reach, let's say, level 50.
Some sort of quite unique staff or magic spell, or even to be recognized as a succesfull mage. Something unique that would make my character different then most of the mages.

An abilitiy to summon a unique beast or a ghost or spirit. Some sort of mixed fire and lightning spell or something. Anything really.

But isn't it what shouts are, unique magical effects that no one else has?

Indeed they are,but I'm talking about something that the player can create. Something like this, you happen to find a book which you cannot find untill you are a higher level. The book allows you to create a unique summoning spell ( it gives you a choice of summoning a unique creature from past ES games, a creature that can't be found anywhere in Skyrim. )

I dunno, something like that. That way, while all other mages can summon a flame atronach, you can summon an, let's say, ancient lich.
Just sayin'.

How unique is it if all dragons, most draugr and the grey beards can use it?

Are you very new to the game?

Spoiler

do you know about Wabbajack?
do you know about Sanguine Rose?
do you know about Master Ritual Spells?

Perhaps your comment/question would do better in spoilers forum.

Master Ritual spells sound about what you're shooting for. They're grossly expensive though on the Magicka pool without utilizing the Enchantment cheesing, but they're still pretty amazing.

Pretty unique. I would argue that the draugr as well as the greybeards do not know more than several shouts. They do not have dragon souls, similar to Ulfric Stormcloak. Dragonborn, on the other hand is not different from a dragon. So, it is unique for people.

On the other hand all the magic in Skyrim is learned from somewhere, so if there is a "unique" spell or combination, there should be some source/teacher. Thus, it is already not absolutely unique. Not different from shouts.

Be fair, Wabbajack and Sanguine Rose are hardly the pinnacles of magical power or history. What he means are things like the Staff of Magnus (created by the god of magic), the Ring of Phynaster (by the archmage of the same name), the Warlock's Ring (the archmage Syrabane) and so on; basically the things tied to successful and powerful wizards of the past.

@OP - They had this in Morrowind and Oblivion. Oblivion awarded you with Wizard's Fury (basically a three-in-one Destruction spell) at a certain rank, two different robes at Apprentice and Conjurer rank, an amulet, a personal staff (which kicked off the Mannimarco arc), and the most powerful Destruction spell (without Spellmaking, although the Unofficial patch had to fix the spell costs) in the game as an extension of one of the recommendation quests, plus the two legendary artifacts of Mannimarco (although Beth forgot them after Manni's death, the Unofficial Oblivion patch fixed this). All in the Mages' Guild quests, of course.

Morrowind - Two side-quests set you off to acquiring the Staff of Magnus and the Warlock's Ring, plus all the usual goodies for advancing in rank.

Well there you go. And no, I'm not new to the game, I just haven't played with a mage character that much. But anyway, you get the point.

No one but you and the greybeards and certain other people and dragons and some undead. And we could use more unique spells besides the master spells which are not unique just more powerful versions of what we have. I want spells like wizards fury from oblivion.

Magic was a lot better in these games. We have more effects now which is good but we lost too much to get them.

Yeah, and if I recall correctly, you could create your own magic spell in Morrowind. I remember that I created a maxed out lightning bolt spell in Morrowind I think. It was awesome to see it strike the enemy.

I am glad that they changed how lighting looked from Morrowind.
