when to start main quest

Post » Sun Jul 15, 2012 3:10 am

Is it best to wait awhile to do the main quest. I am level 10, should I start the main quest now or can I wait? Thanks.

Whenever you feel for it. You can do it just as easily at level 5 as level 25.

Thanks for the reply. I guess my fear is that once I kill a dragon everything else will lose the challenge.

I actually remember reading on at least one website a recommendation to do the main quest up to a certain point for Dragonrend to make dragon hunting easier, especially on melee oriented characters.

Currently, as it is, on my 2h warrior Orc, she has no ranged. If I get a dragon out in the world and he refuses to land, I can't bring him down. Annoying.

Yeah if you're a strictly no-archery/destruction build you need to get Dragonrend to have any real hope against dragons.

I say wait a while, its pretty disappointing.

Not disappointing so much as anti-climactic.

Only thing I didn't like in the MQ was the ending. The rest was well done, IMO.

Only down side to waiting too long to start the MQ is that the guards who help you kill the first dragon have a lot better chance of surviving the fight with a low level dragon. I try and start the Main Quest around Level 5 but I've done it as low as level 1.

You could still carry a staff that shoots destruction magic only to get dragons to land. They weight 8 usually. And you don′t need perks for staffs :)
Main quest been hardest so far I′ve seen. I don′t have dawnguard. I usually left MQ alone when the marker was too far away and returned later.

You know when to take a break with the MQ after you get killed. It gives new shouts every now and then :)

This.

Really just this. Quest was awesome... until the end. Even the ending was pretty good... except that no one recognized anything. "ALL HAIL THE CHAMPION OF CYRODIIL!" "Oh hey, you hear about those dragon attacks?" "Guys, I killed Anduin." "Oh, that's nice dear."

No. One. Gave. A. Crap. Killing that old hag out in the Riften Orphanage got more accolades.

I typically stop right around the time they send you to see the Greybeards so I can kill dragons. I finish the rest of it later.

And whomever mentioned the staves, that could work. Would shooting Illusion spells at it eventually cause it to land? I know not getting into combat and trying to evade them makes them give up, but if I'm shooting stuff at him, even non threatening crap you'd think would be a flag to go HEY COME EAT MY FACE MY AXE WANTS TO SAY HI.

Well, I think the old hag in Riften was more evil then Alduin.

Dragons don't activate until later on in the MQ. You are safe to go into Bleak Falls.
