Most tragic thing in TES lore?

I was playing a few days ago, getting into dwemer ruins - when a 'snow elf' loading screen came up. It was beautiful, I wanted to meet the statue in the loading screen and warn him of what would happen to his race at the hands of the dwemer.

I couldn't help but experience a sickening sense of sadness for the Falmer. I know that the current race is nothing of it's ancient history, but I still somehow feel like there's some kind of snow elf soul deep in those twisted beings.

That's the most tragic thing I've found in TES lore. It's like the dwemer 'broke' the race of snow elves. I'd have LOVED to meet a snow elf in Skyrim.

The forgotten snow-elves who were twisted into the blind falmer by the dwemer.

Additionally: am I the only one who keeps getting the sense that the dwemer attained space travel and abandoned Nirn?

This should probably be in the Lore forums.

Additionally: am I the only one who keeps getting the sense that the dwemer attained space travel and abandoned Nirn?
They wanted to use the Heart of Lorkhan to become gods, but they became the golden skin of Numidium instead (or did they succeed?). We've know it for quite some time: http://www.imperial-library.info/content/final-report-trebonius
But yeah, space travel has also happened on Nirn. Check out Imperial Mannanuts and Sunbirds of Alinor.

On topic: yes, Falmer's history is truly tragic. They tried to protect their homeland from outlanders and ended up blinded and enslaved by their own cousins. Even if it was something they agreed to... You should play Dawnguard if you want to learn more about Snow Elves. It's not much, but it's... well, very, very interesting. And very unexpected if one hasn't been up to date with all leaked information.

For me it was always creation of vampires and everything that happened to Lamae Beolfag and all Daughters of Coldharbor that came after. Maybe I find it so dreadful because I'm a woman; either way, I really hate Molag Bal.
