Bjorn was born in Skyrim, and lived in Solitude as a child. His parents worked for the East Empire Company, and when he was six the company gave his parents a job to deliver some goods by carriage to Bruma. As they entered Cyrodil, a group of Orc Marauders intercepted the caravan and killed both of his parents. They stole all valuable items from the caravan, and left Bjorn to die in the wilderness. Forever onward, Bjorn would carry with him a seething hatred of all Orcs. By chance, a group of Imperial soldiers were on patrol in the area and found young Bjorn. They took him to an orphanage in the Imperial City. His only friend in the orphanage was an Imperial of the same age. Both of them were bullied by the older children and were treated poorly by the caretakers and teachers.
When his Imperial friend was adopted and left for good, Bjorn now age 12 decided to run away. He escaped and made his way to Bravil on his own. There, he managed to survive by stealing food from the market stalls and sleeping in the sewers. Soon after, he attempted to pickpocket a young Dark Elf bandit leader. The Bandit caught him, but instead of killing the young Bjorn, he took him in to his clan. For the first time, Bjorn felt that he had a purpose and a role model in his life. For several years he traveled and pulled off petty heists with his friends. When Bjorn was 17, the group decided they were going to pull off a major heist, one last time in order to secure enough money to live freely. The plan was to rob an Imperial treasury. Little did he and his clan know that the treasury was secretly guarded by an Imperial security force. As they attempted to hold up the workers of the treasury, almost all of Bjorns clan were shot down by archers. He managed to escape with his mentor, the Dark Elf. They were the only two that made it away alive. They set up a makeshift camp, and Bjorn woke up the next day to find a letter from the Dark Elf, stating that it was best if they split up for good in order to help avoid capture. He wished Bjorn the best, but Bjorn was devastated. He now had nobody he could consider a friend or family. The Dark Elf stole a horse and tried to escape Cyrodil, but was caught and arrested. After a futile escape attempt on his way to the Imperial dungeon, he was executed.
Bjorn wandered aimlessly for a while, doing mercenary work and spending his money in brothels. He returned to the Imperial City after a while, where the Arena caught his interest. Bjorn was an exceptional fighter, and scored seven victories in about two years time. This caught the interest of the Fighters Guild, who recruited him. For several years he ran errands and fulfilled contracts for the guild, but he never found anyone he considered a friend. When he was 27, he was sent to the Bruma chapter to assist in work there. The leader of that chapter was a Nord, and after several long conversations, he convinced Bjorn to return to his homeland of Skyrim in order to find peace with his life. After a while, he finally decided to go, which led to him being confused for a Stormcloak and captured by Imperial soldiers, and thus begins the story of Skyrim.
