Bad timing

I had a weird random incident when adventuring in the northern shores of Skyrim. I was attacking a Saber Cat from a distance. I was waiting till it got close enough to me so I could use the Ice Form shout. Right when I was pressing the right bumper, I discover that I can not do anything because the guy that stole something comes up behind me and wants me to hold it for him. This is the guy that stole something from a hunter, I think it was a sword. If the Saber Cat had not killed me, I would have killed that guy instead of the hunter. When I reloaded, there was no interruption. I would have killed him on sight anyway. I know after many hours of play I am not the only person that ran into an unusual crossing of events that caused a memorable character death.

Just yesterday my mage was in the wilderness. Her plan was to sneak close to two Spriggans before she summoned her Flame Atronach, after which she backs away and lobs Destruction spells. This tactic has worked countless times...under normal circumstances. But this time the Thief picks that exact moment to interrupt and hand my mage (who has no points in Stamina) a bow, which slows her down to a walk. The dialogue exits, the Thief runs directly into the Spriggans, alerting them to my mage's presence. She doesn't have time to summon the Atronach before the Spriggans kill her and she can't get away because she's over-burdened with this damn bow.

It took six deaths and reloads - and some nimble fingerwork on the keyboard - before I was able to drop the bow and move out of the way fast enough to cast my Flame Atronach on the run. But that's not all! Now the Hunter comes up to my mage. He interrupts the battle and my character can only stand there and take damage during the forced dialogue with the Hunter. More reloads.

I was stubbornly determined to get through this without reverting to an earlier save. After 15 deaths and reloads my mage finally made it through both the dialogues with the Thief and the Hunter, and survived. That was the hardest fight I've ever had in this game. I was exhausted afterward.

Thanks, Beth.

Yes this has happened to me as well, but I backed out of the conversation, killed the bandits that were attacking me, then proceeded to kill the guy who stole from the hunter for trying to kill me.

Sounds like I was not the only one that got screwed. Glad I did not have it as bad as Pseron Wyrd. I guess I was lucky that the thief did not show up the second time.

There's a clip on youtube where that guy just runs through bandits to the player and asks him to hold the item while being clobbered by the gang. He died as soon as the dialogue ended. It was really funny.

Anyway, this guy only stopped me once, and I was casually strolling down the path to Winterhold. So no harm done. I still ratted him out 'though, and afterwards enjoyed the ensuing 'fight' - the thief just hid behind a rock while cowering - together with a guard ("This should be fun").

That thief has gotten just about everyone killed at some point or another. He showed up in my current playthru in one of the stormcloak forts during the CW questline. Walked into the middle of a giant melee to give my paladin character a stolen item...? What a moron. He died quickly as I don't have time to deal with them. At least the ranger showed up after the fight was over.

I've come close to this happening, but the thief engaged me in convo *just* after I'd swung my battleaxe; consequently I span round and lol'd as the thief's dialogue was cut off by a battleaxe to the face. :D

EDIT: it was a regular mugger thief though, not the guy who trolls hunters...

This happened to me resulting in my character's death. I reloaded and killed the guy as he approached me.
