How big is Skyrim in YOUR mind?

Post » Thu Jul 19, 2012 5:50 pm

I realize that there is an official size of Skyrim (I'm curious does anybody know if Bethesda has put out an official link to the size of Skyrim anywhere), but for me one of the biggest immersion breaking things is the relatively small size of Skyrim.

As someone who hikes pretty frequently, I've done a 30 mile hike in about 8 hours. The distance between riften and markarth is about 24 in game hours (give or take) so that would make the distance about 90 miles (which is something that you could realistically do in a day if you really wanted to)

The point is, Skyrim is way smaller than Yosemite national park, which can take weeks to hike across.

So, as I'm walking across Skyrim, I pretend that it is much, much bigger than it is in game. For me, Skyrim is about the size of Great Britain, taking maybe two weeks to trek from one end to another.

I was wondering if you guys make Skyrim bigger (or hey even smaller) in your minds as you play

It does seem a lot bigger then oblivion even though its not, the map is just a lot better detailed, the paths are way more fluid, oblivion felt like a plate with all the minor cities centered around the big one, but skyrim has all the towns placed in a pretty good variety, it feels more natural.

I think of it as roughly the size of Washington State (USA). I dont know why, possibly because that is my home state.

On a map, I picture the provinces in Tamriel to be rather large - Great Britain is a good comparison. But when I'm actually playing the games, the game worlds are tiny in my mind, despite roleplaying. I have a very hard time thinking of a landmass that can be trekked across in an hour as being very large.

Hm, well it takes a good 5-8 hours to drive, mostly goin 60mph. so thats about 300-480 miles. but then again my math could be terribly wrong, this is all based on the time it takes to drive, and I have never trully driven from the border on the West to the border on the East. Ive driven close to that, but not all the way.

This. I just cannot seem to picture Skyrim properly because of how small it feels in the game.

I hate Skyrims map. You can't see [censored]. And I'm being serious. Cast the Skyrim map into the [censored] Oblivion because it svcks that hardcoe. You can't see any roads, you can't see paths.

And personally I find Skyrim to be just about the size of Oblivion, imo. It doesn't feel bigger.
