This is my 1st time modding, I need help please.

Post » Fri Jul 20, 2012 1:04 am

I found a 4-set of hair, downloaded it. So it's in a .rar file, I downloaded a free trial version of win-rar so I could open it... Then I have no Idea what to do. Do I open Skyrim's documents/files and copy and paste them in? I'm clueless, and like I said, this is my 1st time. All I want is my character to have prettier, longer hair. That's it. Help & advice is much appreciated.

These three videos will get you off to a good start. Gopher is an excellent instructor.

You can always find help here when you have issues. I wish he made something like this when I was brand new.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy modding...Well,I know you will.

First off download a forever free copy of 7zip for any future mods you download for this or other games.

Second find your Skyrim directory and go into data, now right click the .rar and select 7zip > extract to "filename". Now just copy the files and folders to data. Follow my signature for the full guide if those directions aren't detailed enough.

Yes, those videos, and the author are excellent. I wouldnt suggest a manual install until you are more comfortable with modding your game. Just follow the videos. Also a note on your hair mods, know that Skyrim will crash with too many hairs loaded, so you might try them one at a time. Best of luck to you, and welcome to Skyrim modding.

Thanks guys, I'll have to watch the videos when I can keep my eyes open better lol.. I spent like 3 hours at least trying to do this, so hopefully after I sleep I'll be able to understand better and have long hair <3 Thank all of you in advance though! And how much hairs is too much for it to crash? I think what I'm trying to get is a set of 6

Six hairs are fine, just not six mods containing multiple hairs.
