About DLC...

First off, I'm not talking about "Hearthfire" and whether or not it's the next DLC.

Rather, I'd like to share a little thought I had. Adventures in TES lead player through the lands of (some) of Tamriel, to Oblivion, and back. But what of the other continents? As far as I know from lore, besides Tamriel there are three remaining continents that can support life: Thras (Home of "slug creatures"), Aldmeris (Sort of the Elven Atmora), and Akavir ("Dragon Land"). Well, instead of having the dragon born stay within the limits of Tamriel, why not break free and explore one of these places? This sort of expansion wouldn't mean a fancy new sword and shield, it would drop the Dragonborn off in an unfamiliar land where he wouldn't recognize the race of the citizens, much less the dangers of any type of foe within. Whether Bethesda would go for the obvious Dragon Land, or either of the other continents, I wonder how anyone else would feel about this kind of radical change.

Or maybe everyone who wants to take a step out of Skyrim is crazy, and we'll just have the fog-of-war edges of the map crammed with locations that are just Skyrim with a slight twist

i'd rather bethesda finish tamriel with future games then move onto other continents. an expansion would'nt be large enough, you said yourself, it would be a radical change. i just dont think it would be portrayed well in a expansion

I see where you're coming from, but one could say the same thing about the idea of going to Elseweyr in an expansion, there's no way to see everything the Khajit have to offer in a single download. If we get a taste of these other places, it adds a whole world of possibilites for lore, artifacts, smithing styles, magic and more to Skyrim and future Elder Scrolls.

What better way to see what Akavir is like than through the eyes of the Dragonborn?

Alas, I believe a DLC would probably not do that continent any justice... It will be exciting to see the rest of the world in later games though.

well because Akavir is a massive continent? and couldnt just be woven into a DLC ;p

besides as Toddism said, their doing DLC's to add to/Improve Skyrim the Province/game/setting ;p I for one would like a DLC to extend the Guild quests. at this point I could go for anything in a sense. if thats the only way to shore up Skyrims shortcomings so be it, I'd cough up a coin or two for some Guild extension DLC's

Are sailing technologies advanced enough to set sail to these other continents?

I like your idea. I have a question though. Are you talking strictly about the Thieves Guild, or do you mean all factions in general? I have never really played all the way through the Thieves Guild questline, but I understand its general arc. I know the College and Companions questlines like the back of my hand. If you are talking about all the factions, I would really be for this, as it would be interesting to see some them breath new life into what is arguably the life blood of their game. Personally, I want them to flesh out options to oppose the different factions, or give greater control in steering them in new directions.

Spoiler
An example would be possibly forcing the companions to be cleared of lycanthropy and maybe joining forces with the silver hand. Or personally, since you can already destroy the DB, I wish they would expand on that and let you hunt them down as part of some secret imperial force. If they do this, they also better let me take the Thieves Guild down once and for all. I think Mjoll could be the leader of this opposite quest, maybe even band together with the Riften guards?

If they did that, then the mysterious continents wouldn't be a mystery anymore.

For ages now, expeditions have been sent, both ways, and 2 races from Akavir have already invaded before ;p

snip

yes all the Guilds, whether it be continuation storylines or new threats and the end, or even restructuring of the quests with some additions, I do not mind. I just know that I would shell out coin for a DLC like this. its not a new continent, its not a new province, but hell if it gives me more so be it. divine knows I want more.
