Tech Help Forum Dead. Help?

Post » Sun Jul 22, 2012 4:02 am

Before you tell me I'm on the wrong forums, I've been waiting already for 3 hours, with no response. So I thought I'd try here instead.

I'm on Steam. Before, my game kept crashing every time I started playing. I fixed my sound settings, and nothing. I thought maybe I had too many mods, so I even reinstalled Skyrim and removed all of the mods beforehand. Started it up again several hours later, and it keeps shutting down very subtly (not even a warning) during the load screen when I start my game. I've even tried starting a NEW game, and still the same. In fact, sometimes I'll just get this sharp, red and pink blob on the screen where they usually show images on said load.

I don't know what's going on, but my game was fine before this. Help.

Is your game just CTD'ing without a single warning, or are you getting a specific error message and code?

No error message. Nothing. I even tried going back to patch 1.5. At first it said all files before 1.6 were corrupt, but I replaced those with some back ups and was able to try and load them. But now, when I do that, it crashes even sooner. I don't even get to see the load screen.

Since you're on Steam, did you try validating your game cache after updating again?

Yeah, and it just sits there at 100%. Can't even click anything but cancel. =/

When you uninstalled and reinstall, did you also physically delete the remnants from your Steam folder in Program Files? Sometimes residual things from mods such as script templates can be left behind and start making trouble for your reinstall.

Then let it work a little , even if it's stuck.
Once I had something like this , let it run for 5-10 minutes..

I deleted the Skyrim folder from Steam. Was I supposed to do more? And if so, what? And will that mean having to do a reinstall, again?

I think it could be better if you uninstalled from Steam..

No, that's what I usually do to ensure a completely clean reinstall as well. I've been trying to comb through some boards based on your "symptoms" but so far I haven't come up with anything other than the obvious : Completely uninstall, reinstall, validate your cache, etc. You've already done all that though, so this might be awhile.

If your cache verification keeps getting stuck, I did find this tidbit you could try : "You can try exiting Steam, deleting your https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7241-EYON-2343 and appupdatestats.blob files, then running steam again and verifying the cache..."

Where do I find these blob files?

Click on the light blue link and it'll send you to a "how to."

So I did as you said, and Steam still shows a quarter of the way green bar along my task bar, but the validation is again at 100%, and still won't complete. Keeps saying it's cache (0 of 1) at the top, and skyrim files (1 of 1) below.

General uninstall and reinstall questions can be best answered at the Steam Forums. I am moving this thread to hardware.

Note, this was caused by you stopping the validation before it was completed. This is why you need go through this. Go watch TV or make a sandwich if you have too.

The whole reason I even got any responses was because I wasn't ON the hardware forums. Ugh. After 3 hours of looking myself, while waiting.

And the validation says it's complete. I've been googling all over, and no one seems to have an answer. I keep finding things about fixing my sound, and my sound is where it should be. I just want to play this game already. :(

Update the drivers on your video and sound cards, if you haven't already? :\

Sorry you're having so much trouble with all this. I know how it feels to have a game suddenly seem to just go "Eh! Ain't gonna play me anymore!" and it's nerve-wracking to find the one possible flaw amongst all the potential ones people report.

Everything is up to date. I just bought a new graphics card earlier this year, and my games were running beautifully. And now this... and right before Dawnguard too. :(
