New beta patch available (1.7)

Post » Tue Jul 24, 2012 4:21 am

Just got this from twitter. Apparently it's mostly Dawnguard and Kinect related fixes, but the line 'General memory and stability optimizations' makes me happy :D

Changelog is available http://www.bethblog.com/2012/07/23/1-7-beta-update-available-on-steam/.

Anybody take the plunge yet? Does it improve performance?

I wonder why Bethesda doesn't add voice related features to PC Skyrim? Long before they added Kinect support I remember hearing about a mod that let you use your mic to call out dragon shouts. Why not add that in via official patch? Also, do they plan on ever adding mounted casting? I know there's a mod for PC that does it but an official solution would be nice.

Nice, will be interesting to see what this contains.

EDIT: Only updated TESV.exe, changelog is pretty nice though. :)

Apparently Dawnguard has those 'flow based water shaders' from the gamejam vid. Saw some mentions of it in some reviews of Dawnguard. Of course, we're not sure when PC is getting Dawnguard...

Either that or the underwater DoF stuff in patch 1.5, took some time to fix though if it were to be that so it's probably the above.

If we did, then our libraries would be useless. :P

In any case, does anyone have a full directory diff so we know what files changed?

Oh by the divines yes I seriously hope so.

Edit: Hey I was right! They saved the 1.6 update for PS3 and are rolling it all into 1.7. Hopefully they fixed a bunch of extra issues for those on ps3. :)

FYI there's a mod that allows you to voice-control everything that you can do with your keyboard, including stuff that Kinect can only dream of. There's a clue in my sig.

I'm very dissapointed that there is no mention of the 'dialogue bug' being fixed in the new patch. Have they broken the thing so badly they don't know how to fix it or are us PCers just being hung out to dry while they pander to the console (i.e. Kinect-buying) masses?

Are there actually that many people using the Kinect stuff?
Granted, I'm a PC , so I have no experience in that regard, but ... people really do that? Play Skyrim with Kinect, I mean?

Heh, a patch for Dawnguard... As expected. Flowing water shaders sounds interesting.

If flowing water shaders are in (and by the gods i hope it is) how will mods like W.A.T.E.R and Pure Waters cope? will they have to rebuild their mod from the ground up? or will it work fine with it?

Bad news, but thanks for letting us know.
To be honest, I'm tempted not to upgrade, which hasn't happened before. This doesn't add anything to my game. Still, I guess it shouldn't break too much compatibility if not much has been changed.... right? Right?

I wonder why? Was it bugged by Beth so that no Vanilla dialogue could be edited??

I know you are working on a huge mod, yet that doesn't edit Vanilla dialogue so is it correct in saying that no one knows how/why it got bugged....

Memory and Optimization is always a good thing otherwise the patch is a little .... weak.
