Dodging and parrying, how they could be introduced.

A while ago I made a thread about how dodging could be introduced, I'll quote it:
First merge the lockpick and pickpocket skill into larceny, get rid of some of the worthless lockpick perks. Now we have one new skill tree for the thieves skills.

In oblivion we had athletics and acrobats, acrobats affected jumping height and air attacks whilst athletics affected running/swimming speed. I'd like a new merged skill that incorporates both of those oblivion skills, whilst also affects your dodging ability.

Change the button for sprinting (LB on xbox) to the oblivion style, the joystick goes from walking>running>sprinting, whereas now it goes walking>running with the button for sprinting.

Then that button can be used for dodging, press the button and move left/right/back to dodge incoming attacks. They might have to reduce how large the hit areas are to make it feasible. Your ability to dodge is affected by the skill, perks and your armor weight, I'd hope they change weightless heavy armor to half the weight as well.

The skill tree would have perks for dodging effectiveness, jumping height, drop damage, running speed, air attacks and bonus damage/stagger after successfully dodging an attack.
Which I still stand by, it would be a great addition to the game for low armor characters. The button for dodging isn't set in stone, you could still have sprinting but find another button somewhere on the controller , for example both up and down directional buttons are used for the favourites menu, only need one for that.

But now I'm thinking about parrying, I'll list the controls for consoles as I'm sure PC players won't have a problem finding enough space for game controls.

So the left thumbstick controls your movement, the right thumbstick controls which way your character is looking. If they had a system where swinging your weapon combined with moving the right thumbstick dictated where the weapon is swung. For example moving the right joystick slightly up when attacking would slice the blade up from the floor, or moving the thumbstick slightly right would swipe to the right.

Now you can have a parry system, if you swipe the perpendicular direction to the enemies swipe then you perform a parry, so if they swipe up you swipe to the left or right to parry.

In terms of damage, I was thinking one of two options. Either ignore all damage to either person, or you could add the two damages up of the two weapons and split them. So a thief using a light sword dealing 10 damage could parry a greatsword dealing 50 to deal 30 damage to each person.

You could change how effective each weapon type (sword, axe, mace) is at parrying other weapon types. Trying to parry a mace with a sword is more difficult than parrying a mace with a mace for example. I'm using the term parry loosely here.
