I was hoping someone could make appearance item slot, that way if I wanted to wear a black robe or something else, I wouldnt lose out on my main gear stats.. I know a lot of you fellow role players would use this mod. And I know It would be a "must have" mod, if done correctly.

Is something like this possible for Skyrim?

There are already several unused slots for equipping gear that is not meant to replace the standard one.

Bandolier is a good example. You can equip various pockets over your armour, because they use slots not used by vanilla gear.
