An alternate DB questline

I am glad they gave an alternative to the DB in Skyrim, and I recently had an idea. Rather than a straight up war on the DB, I was thinking you could prevent contracts. Here's the idea.

Say you hear rumours that Commander Maro is recruiting a new faction dedicated to stopping the Brotherhood. You talk to him and he tells you he needs your help ASAP. He reveals that a shady character has been, for example, creeping around Ivarstead. He asks you to check the scene out, and as you get there, an assassin in the DB armour is making his killer move on Narfi. You kill the assassin and report back to Maro, who gives you a gold reward and thanks you for saving an innocent life. This could continue for a while. You would prevent contracts from being carried out. And then, after stopping these murders, Maro says, "We received information of an assassination attempt on the Emperor. You will be part of his personal guard." You then kill an assassin as he escapes from the murder of the fake Emperor. Finally, you join the Penitus agents as they assault the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary.

I thought it would be cool to have an alternate questline rather than what we have now. Just an idea and I'm sure some people will pick holes in it but hey, I think it'd be good. ^-^

Yeah, I wish you could maybe join forces with Mjoll and finish off the Thieves Guild.

I like this idea, I think it would be much more fun to have a longer "Destroy" questline, where you are thwarting the DB's work while Maro is gathering intel. It would be tricky to play for my Stormcloak-aligned characters, but for a neutral or Legion-aligned character I think it would be awesome. Far more satisfying than "I killed Astrid" - "ORLY? I have the password to their hideout, plz go kill the rest of them kthxbai."

I mean, random assassins are already in the game, just script some of them to attempt the hits on other people and let the PC intervene. They could all still be nameless and then you'd kill the unique DB NPCs in the sanctuary at the end of the questline.

Edit: and ditto on a similar questline for taking down the TG.

He wants an alternate, longer and more complex "Destroy the Dark Brotherhood" questline. He's not suggesting changes to the questline where you join them.

Not everyone wants to join the DB or TG. Some people never do and for some it's not an appropriate option for certain characters. I've done both once and have no interest in doing either one again.

The alternative to joining the DB is to avoid their questline completely, or destroy them in one single quest.

The alternative to joining the TG is to... not join them. Once the decision is made not to join, they are just background characters taking up space - providing atmosphere but no real content.

Lengthening the Destroy quest for the DB, and adding a Destroy quest for the TG, would provide more "stuff" to do for players who don't want to join them but would like to get a little more game time out of the fact that they exist as potential enemies.
