Start Roleplaying.

Hello, Skyrim is one of the first RPG I've played, I play WoW (I just play PvP), I have played Counter Strike and various other FPS-games.
I picked up Skyrim on the Steam summersale because I have allways liked medieval games and storys LoTR etc. I haven't read much Elders Scrolls lore I have just looked up som races on UESP.
I now have over 200 hours played and I have finished the main quest line and all the guild quests, I rushed through it and changed my character so many times using respec mods and "showracemenu"

I have read the forums and people say that roleplaying makes the game even more enjoyable, I have tried Roleplaying on WoW and I quite enjoyed it, But I'm just asking for some roleplaying tips
and maybe some class ideas, I'm using a mod called "Alternate Start - Live another life" just so you know if you know a good starting place for a certain class.
I'm also looking for some tips to control yourself from using fast travel.

Thanks in advance. And sorry if the post doesen't make any sense.

Welcome to ze forums!
A good way to roleplay is to just imagine you are your character..... say he or she is making a difficult choice would YOU choose to act with violence or would you talk your way out of it.

I'm kinda guilty of fast traveling everywhere, but I only fast travel when I'm doing a really long quest.

Hi  and welcome to the forums.

Role playing is my favorite way to play and I would be glad to give you some tips that help me.

Make up a back story for your character life.
Decide if your character will be lawful or not.
Eat and sleep on a regular schedule.
Use the carriage in place of fast travel if you're in a hurry. Otherwise walk when ever you can.

I'm not familiar with this mod for Skyrim but I do remember on like it from Oblivion. Mostly I suggest playing the class you enjoy most. Me, I love archery and play as an adventurer/warrior/hunter.

I'd say the opposite works too, at least for me. Sit down and think about your character. Try to imagine the way they would think, you could think of a backstory to make the characterization easier. Then, when playing, try to separate the entity of your character from yourself. Make their decisions based on the personality you've built for them. And keep building that personality while playing, let the character develop.

I just started roleplaying the other day as well. I don't know how you want to play it, but what I've done is created a character (a khajiit) who has started to live a life in Whiterun. For a while, it would make sense to live out of an inn, since you cannot afford a house, and you have to sleep and eat anyways. Eat two large meals per day, and my Khajiit tends to enjoy getting himself quite drunk at night. He has, however, only been arrested for public intoxication twice. As an angry drunk, he has a tendancy to attack the bards, since their music annoys him.

Just start a character like I did, and continue his story as you go along. It is better than wanting to be leader of all of the guilds or whatever.

Is there a way to increase the length of the days in Skyrim without messing up the NPCs?

Here's an http://j-u-i-c-e.hubpages.com/hub/roleplaying-skyrim that has some roleplaying tips.

For my roleplays, I first think up a personality and brief backstory. Basically, I ask myself "why is this character in Skyrim?" I try not to set any specific long-term plan for them, as I find that ruins the sense of being on the journey with the character. I set a small goal like "Look for the College of Winterhold" or "Research Dwemer artifacts". Forget about powergaming or min/maxing. That can ruin immersion. Instead, think up a few restrictions or quirks for your character. For instance, maybe you roll a Bosmer hunter, and he will only wear Fur Armor and never a stronger bow than a Hunting Bow. Maybe you have a mage that despises touching corpses... so you can't loot anything from a dead body.

One thing I have recently started doing to help immersion is using the wait function to serve as an indication that time has passed. I'll typically wait 1 hr for each meal (my characters eat twice a day), or wait a couple hours after a long alchemy mixing session. It helps me feel like my character is actually living thru each game day, rather than miraculously getting a million things done before the sun goes down. In general, try to "stop and smell the roses" as you play- it's not a race to the finish!

Forgive my double post, but the article I linked to explains just that in Tip #5. Have fun!

There may be a mod on Steam for that for PC players, but I don't think a console player could
