Runtime error + CTDs

Hey all, wondering if anyone can help with a sudden crashing problem I have playing Skyrim.

I got the GotY off Steam so I have had Dawnguard installed and running from the start. ~60 hours gameplay no severe issues, apart from one or two graphics-card related crashes that also happens with other games. I run it windowed mode, from experience with the Fallout titles my PC can run games better like that.

I also recently installed the weird Space Core mod (can't remember the name but it's an official plug-in), but that was a couple of weeks ago I think, so not sure if that has any effect on the following problem.

anyway - since two days ago I have been having crashes with an error message saying something about the C++ runtime - runtime error r6025 pure virtual function call. The game freezes and I have to ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task window to kill it. That's mostly what happens, other times I get a CTD with no error message, lag, or game freeze - the window literally just disappears.

I restarted Steam, restarted the computer, updated my graphic card drivers, repaired the 2010 C++ installation, deinstalled and reinstalled Skyrim through Steam, deleted a load of old savegames from the folder - no help, I get these crashes a few minutes into gameplay (or sooner), making it unplayable.

I'm not sure what has triggered this but I have two ideas:

- I recently did a long overdue Windows update because it kept prompting me on shutdown, plus I updated my Avira. Should I restore the system back to an earlier point?
- The crashes started while I was playing the Dawnguard MQ after a certain point - the first crash came after
Spoiler
slaying Durnehviir
. Is it something to do with Dawnguard?

I'll post dxdiag later if anyone needs it. Thanks for any help..
