Is Hearthrfire worth getting?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:12 pm

I heard that Hearthfire was tedious because of all the stuff you have to go through to get materials for your house and I wasn't really interested in Hearthfire until my friend told me you could train your children to be warriors (can you train them to be restoration mages?) So is Hearthfire worth getting?

Dude, its $5. You can barely get a meal at a fast food restaurant for $5. If Hearthfire added only 2 additional hours of play time it would work out to be $2.50 / hour.

In fact, it seems like the kind of DLC that will add literally dozens or scores of hours of play . . . IF you are the type of player who will use and enjoy it.

So in sum: if it sounds like fun to you, it would certainly seem to be worth $5!

You can give your kids a dagger to practice with on dummies. As for me I think the dlc is worth it if only for the new roleplaying possibilities the house locations give you.

I just finished my lunch. Chinese takeout, $5.50. Gone in 30 minutes.

Bought Heathfire last night. Played three hours. Can't wait to go back for more.

I agree that gathering materials is a pain, however you can avoid this by getting a steward and paying them to do it all for you. It takes them some time, but if you have the gold (and it isn't that much) this is the easy way to go.

Bought it yesterday for the PC and yes. for 4.99 I can think of a lot of things that money could have been wasted on. Hearthfire is worth it. I'm enjoying it a lot!

Yeah, I think it is absolutely worth 5 dollars. I have played through HF content numerous times, building all the homes and trying different variations of wives, children and stewards. It is small but has a lot of replayability and adds a few nice features to the overall skyrim experience.

It's definitely worth getting, I know that just from watching others play.

This. Especially if you don't have a PC and/or like to try an alternative approach playing the game. If so, you could use Hearthfire as a means to an end (ie using it as a base for game completion of MQ/side quests etc) instead of just buying it to build a house in a straight game session. In which case, you'll possibly never want to use it afterwards.

It's great if you're an open sandbox gamer who wants to add new dimension and novelty to your game. If not, why not just add it and gradually build/collect materials for your home, while you attempt to save Skyrim from the Civil War and Dragon menace?

IMO the family & white picket fence theme adds some nice variety to the MQ & game play in general. So just think of this DLC as a nice break in character from your traditional giant toe eating, Fus Ro Dah shouting Dovahkiin.

I played for three hours last night and I have been REALLY enjoying it. No problems for me so far, just had to disable a few of those giant trees added by the 'Bigger Trees' mod, as they were in my house and stable.

Alvor has become an unexpected best friend as I travel back and forth for iron and fittings. So far I have been working on the Lakeview House and it is not nearly done. Not too happy having to choose between bedrooms and a greenhouse, but the fact that we have such choices in the first place is pretty awesome.

Overall, just on the hours I have enjoyed alone, this DLC is certainly worth $5. It won't be to everyones taste, but the majority of players should really enjoy it. So personally I think the small team that created and built it did a brilliant job on making something so immersive, that gives you so many choices.....then there is the modding potential *drools*. Lakeview is a bit too isolated for my personal taste (though some will love that), maybe it needs a village around it with general store, forge, lumber mill etc......

You'll have to weigh what you are willing to spend against what you are getting for your money -- then decide if the price is worth it.
Personally, I'm getting Hearthfire, but I'm waiting for a moment I can't get it at a discount.

Lunch = costs more than Hearthfire.

Hearthfire = hours of gameplay x however many characters you use it on

It's like Dawnguard. People say Dawnguard isn't worth it for $20, but you get like 20 hours on it, and you do it on maybe 3 or 4 characters, and then it's worth much more than even a whole new game.

Hearthfire = Keeps you bored

Why do people keep doing a terrible nonsensical comparison between prices to justifying buying garbage?

This is nothing like Dawnguard. Dawnguard content can be used in the vanilla game to improve your experience with it. Hearthfire is literally an on the side time sink for people who want a big buggy house.

Amazing DLC for roleplayers. The new house is awesome. Huge with plenty of space and people to live inside. Took me quite some time to arrange everything and move all my stuff. Now it feels cosy and lovely with my two daughters, wife, steward, bard, pet and Serana.
I plan to build the other two houses these days. I am rich after all. I am going to upgrade all the vanilla houses with more beds for my kids if we decide to visit them some time in the future. :)

That is your opinion, I think people will either love it or not be interested. A lot of us others are not bored by it at all, we are really enjoying it. It adds immensely to the roleplay experience. Besides....

Pack of cigarettes = 6.60 euros
Hearthfire = 5 euros and better for your health.

I never purchased Dawnguard, it simply didn't interest me. Might get it in a Christmas sale. Now if you will all excuse me...I have to go order some more logs and make some more nails. My house isn't going to build itself.
