I have found a good way to display the dragon burial map.

Normally, if you drop it on the floor or on a table it will just disappear when you exit and reenter the cell. What I did was drop it on top of some pre-existing clutter on a table and when I came back it was still there.

Next, if you try to place it flat on a table it will fall through to the ground or possibly disappear. To get around this, If you place it so it is standing on its edge and leaning against a wall, it will display properly. What I ended up doing is placing it in that empty container on top of a small cabinet in the back room on the right side near the anvil.

Whatever you do, save before dropping it or else you might lose it for good. Also, save before moving it around.

Any Hearthfire House with the Main Hall, he is referring to the wooden tray on top of the cabinet near the backroom door. But you should be able to do that in other places.

will it stay in a large display case?

I have not tried that. I suspect that it will not, but you could try it.

i put mine in the large display cabinet on the upper landing in hjerim and it stayed there just fine but ive not tried putting it in any of the hearthfire houses yet
