Question for those who have Dawnguard re: replay value

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 2:41 am

PS3 player here, so I obviously don't have the add on, and as time goes by, I am really wondering if I will pay the $20 even IF it ever becomes available. I would have jumped on it a couple of weeks ago!

My question to those who have it, is what is the replay value? I know you have 2 sides to play, so that's ok. But is this add on something that you will play with every new Skyrim character you make? Or is once each time through enough?

I would just like opinions

Its replayable for me. one due to the fact if you ignore it you can seriously lose important NPC in Skyrim due to attacks if your not careful. AND it intruduces new weapons, armor and areas to explore that I enjoy going back to. I'll probably side dawnguard against vampires every time though. I can't RP my characters as vampires. Werewolf to the core!

As a former PS3 Skyrim player I feel your pain and hope you guys get this DLC. IMO it was worth the $20 to me.

To me the dlc is replayable 100%. I always start the dlc right at level 1. but if you want to something to compare it to it's like knights of the nine but 10 times better.

In think the dlc has good replay value, I must have completed it quite a few times. Plus it has some of the best scenery in the game dungeon wise.

There is one particular piece of the main questline that I am LOATHE to ever do again and would console past it (as I am a PC owner), and there are also more than a few quests that are merely seek-kill-return in nature and are therefore tedious, but are at least optional ones. So with that in mind, the replayability ranks a little better than average, however the game additions the DLC provides are Excellent, and are must haves [for me].

^ I'll agree with Resident_Within.
For me, its totally re-playable (as I am currently on my third play-through (360)). It's something that you don't want to ignore, but at the same time I enjoy the extra tension it brings. Knowing that there are vampires out there, watching, waiting, it's kinda like the dragon threat for me. At any moment they could pop up and you'll have to deal with them. Finishing the main quest for DG doesn't stop the vamp attacks, but they do calm down a bit. At least they did for my other two characters.

Totally replayable and all my characters do it. Both questlines are awesome and worth doing.

I played both sides and that is good. I have however turned it off for all new characters as I got tired of dealing with the NPC deaths from random vamp attacks.

I played through the first time on the vampire side and the second time on the Dawnguard side. I liked how they felt different, even though the same places were recycled. The side-specific quests were a good amount of fun. If I had to point out a problem, it would be that after you've buffed your character out (as a vampire or Dawnguard) you're kind of left feeling like "now what?". Continuing a character after playing through Dawnguard (either side) will be difficult for me.

But I can say that I really liked the vampire and werewolf perk trees, as well as some of the other game-balancing that seems to have been done.

Only thing I would like to see is a comprehensive bug fix patch for some of the "features" added by Dawnguard.

they're essentially the same quest lines on both sides, reflected.

I didn't touch it again besides becoming a vampire lord after beating it the first time, but that's just me.

Besides being able to enjoy playing both sides, there are some nice items to get along with an interesting side quest.

good dlc with a good replay value, but i was expecting more choices and different missions for each side
however, the side quests were fun for both factions

It was ok. It does have some re-play value. I just wish the questlines weren't exactly the same.

Very good replay value for me, I found it one of the more enjoyable questlines in the game, possibly on par with or a close second to the TG questline.

Loved it on my first playthrough, really loved it. However I found the replay value poor due to the story being very railroady and also the fact that large chunks of the vampire and vampire hunter quest lines are essentially the same.

I've been through both the Dawnguard and Vampire sides with two seperate characters and I can't wait until my new Orc character is of the level necessary to begin so I can start crushing vampires with him. I have a character who is a hunter/gatherer and makes his money through hunting animals and treasure and making and selling potions. He's currently on hold due to my new Orc and when I get around to it, my Nord hunter will be using the Dawnguard to begin his rise to greatness in the world of Skyrim. After he's known as the vampire slayer he realizes his true destiny and thusly becomes the Dragonborn. The reason I'm telling you this is to give you an example of how I'm using Dawnguard's replayability.

So, I do think there's alot of replay value with it.

With that being said, I wouldn't keep holding on to that $20 just for Dawnguard. If there's another game coming out or something else you're interested in spending that money on, go right ahead. There's no release date for Danwguard on the PS3 and whenever it does finally come out, it will always be on the PSN. When it's released it will always be available for purchase and you can just buy it then..

It was ok, I usually side with the Vampires. Because I use a mod that lets me have a cool bat nose on my character. The best thing about the mod imo is, the scenery especially the vale. Oh and the Falmer, not the crazy ones.

I also sympathize with you, I use to be a console player myself; and hated seeing other consoles get things first.

I would replay it, my first time around was with the vampires. Though parts of the quest line really starts to get tedious and I wanted to speed through it so fast because of such.

My second play through might be siding with the Dawnguard as a werewolf.

IMHO, it is great the first time through. But, as for replay value, I feel that since you know what is going to happen, it is best to leave TES5: Skyrim: Dawnguard alone for a while before replaying. (I feel the same about all TES titles.)

Of course, I have no interest in siding with the Volkihar Clan, so, under my own logic, that eliminates one valid replay of TES5: Skyrim: Dawnguard right there. But, if you are interested in doing so, then you have one valid replay of TES5: Skyrim: Dawnguard right there.

Of course, that is just me ... :whoops:
