Nexus mods and workshop mods at the same time?

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 9:21 pm

My question is simple. If I run my skyrim with both nexus mods as well as workshop mods from Steam. Will it cause any problems on the Steam side of things? I realize this may be a stupid question. But I don't want to bite the bullet and install a nexus mod and then later have my Steam account be either put on some sort of suspension or banned for not using Steam supported mods. Any assistence in this question will be greatly appreiciated thank you.

It's perfectly fine to use nexus and Workshop mods together. The whole point of Steam Workshop was to simply make installing them easier for those that have never modded before.

Plus Nexus has a lot of mods that can't be put on the workshop, such as those over the wokshops size limits and any requiring third party tools such as SKSE (Which Vave actually helped make compatible with Steam to begin with).

So I am at no risk of Steam wierdness when using Nexus mods? That's a relief. There were a few that I was interested in but I was unwilling to install them untill I had a definite answer to this question. Thank you.

Probably should be in the mods forum but,

I use both Steam and nexus, I have not had any problems the only thing I find is steam can get a bit anoying when you have mods installed that aren't from your Steam cloud?? If I go online with steam I usually get bugged about my steam cloud not syncing and it tends to bog down launching. So I usually just keep offline unless there's a good reason to log on.

Well that's what happens to me anyway.

I don't think they would ban you just for that or 95% of the PC community would be banned already.

Ah thank you. I won't worry then. And sorry for placing this in the wrong section. I can take it down shortly. if that is necessary.

I wouldn't say "no worry". You still need to look out for mod conflicts. Regardless of where you get your mods, if they alter any of the same things, then there will be issues.

I know to look out for things like that. What I am worried about is getting my Steam account in trouble by using the afformentioned Nexus mods.

You can host SKSE reliant mods on the Workshop, although SKSE itself must be acquired elsweyr.

I don't really understand how this could be a question to begin with.
It would be a really bad move from Valve to play it that way.

Steam Workshop is only 1 out of many mod hosts out there, official support through CK integration or not. There's no rule saying you can only use Steam Workshop mods when buying Skyrim, nor do you sign a contract not to use mods from other hosts when registering at the Workshop. Would they really play that kind of trick, the Skyrim Steam Workshop would be leaving the scene in no time. They're not the only one and nobody is forced to use it.

If there was a clause like "You are not allowed to use mods from Nexus or other sites when using the Steam Workshop!" or any such funny regulations in their EULA, well, then, goodbye, Workshop.

It was a question born out of my pure ignorance of the subject and my mild paranoia. I just wanted to make absolutely sure that installing Nexus mods would not have any negative effects like that before I used them. I understand this may have been an irritating question. I was just looking for advice from people who are more familiar with the subject than I.

1 / I have run the game from the file skse_loader.exe. The game is running but I don’t have subscribed mods from this page workshop

2 / I’m running SkyrimLauncher.exe file, game is going to site workshop and take the subscribed mods. After loading I click the PLAY the game. Game is loading but without SKSE.

3 / I’m running game with NMM without SKSE with the same functions as in point 2 of
And I don’t what to do - the game should be take subscribed 2 mods on this page, and added the SKS workshop

On this page workshop at the bottom on the left is the "Add Game"
There appears a small colorful window with a view of my disk and there I select skse_loader.exe choose the file and I click on the Add button
and after a while ...
Appears at the top skse icon and when I click now on "Play Now" game is loaded from a file SKSE. As soon SKYRIM loads that will not start mods subscribed. So in the game, but I have the SKSE mods subscribed to Workshop

Support me with ODIS but not about and sent me to you.
Secondary Installers

If you're encountering issues with launching Skyrim, make sure everything installed smoothly.
Aside from .......... and Steam, you may also need to manually run secondary installers required by this game.
Exit Steam entirely.
Browse to your Skyrim installation folder (Usually C:\Program files\Steam\Steamapps\common\skyrim\)
Run the following installers:
  • ...\Steamapps\Common\skyrim\DirectX10\dxsetup.exe
  • ...\Steamapps\Common\skyrim\DotNetFX\dotnetfx35setup.exe
  • ...\Steamapps\Common\skyrim\VCRedist\vcredist_x86.exe
Reboot your computer and test any issues again.

OS Specific Troubleshooting

If the above does not resolve the issue and you are running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, please complete the instructions in our Windows7 FAQ.
If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps:
  • Exit Steam.
  • Go to the Start menu, select Run, type regedit and click OK.
  • Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
  • Right click and select Permissions
  • Check the Allow boxes for Admin and System for both Full control and Read.

Who will help me?

Nope, no trouble using both Steam and Nexus at the same time. You have to remember that the game itself works right off Steam's connection, the same connection that also runs their mods, so of course having their mods running on their connection wont conflict with NMM. Conflicting mods might, but for reasons other than the two mod managers working at the same time.

Steam would only try to take action against you if you were caught cheating in an online multiplayer game. You can do whatever you want (within reason) to single player games, especially ones which are designed with modding in mind.
