Hi, I am making a new character, an Orc. He will become an assassin, but what's the best way to start when making one?

Well first off an Orc isn't really the best choice logic wise and lore wise. Orcs are barbarians, warriors, and in some cases necromancers, but in no way stealthy. They are over 6 foot tall and weigh over 250 pounds easy.

However, as far as actual game mechanics goes, I guess it doesn't matter.

But Assassins usually use light armor, archery, one handed, and stealth. Those are the 4 skills you should focus on. Illusion is good if you want to throw in magic to the mix.

My Dark Elf Assassin uses archery for long ranged kills, and backstab with a dagger for a close up execution. It's quite fun, actually.

Take bounty's from Taverns and clear bandit hide outs to make some good money and level up some skills. Then do the guilds.

Imo, it's best to focus on either using archery or one handed for assassins. However, it doesn't hurt to use one handed weapons as an archer or vice versa.

It really depends on your kill preference. Do you want long ranged kills, or backstabbing?

200 years ago there was an Orc assassin in the dark brotherhood in Cheydinhall.
One of the most memorable npc's in Cyrodill.

I'd wear The Dark Brotherhood Robes, have pretty much all perks in Illusion for Frenzy and Silent Casting, as well as Invisibility, Frenzy being an excellent way to have people assassinated. Alteration for armour rating and Detect Life and Detect Dead for hunting and tracking down your targets, Destruction simply to Adept for something like Fireball, since with Silent Casting you'll be able to cast huge explosions of fire from the shadows without being seen, or simply have everyone kill each other. Only need to focus on the left side of the Sneak tree too with this.

There's a fair few ways to play as an assassin really.

Of coarse, and did you ever listen to his dialogue or talk to him? Everything he spoke about was how it was silly for an Orc to use stealth skills, and how he carried out his contracts by swinging his 2h mace. He also had an entire suit of leveled heavy armor.

This doesn't really hold water. Orcs can leave their strongholds to become whatever they want to be. They can come in all sorts of sizes and dispositions. Their Berserk ability - double attack and halve received damage - is useful no matter what sort of build you're pursuing. The idea that Orcs must always be heavily-armored, hammer-swinging savages is really lacking in imagination.

OP, if you want to make an Orc assassin, do it. Starting skill levels aren't hugely important in this game, and Berserk will always be useful in a tight spot when stealth fails you. I recommend joining the DB as soon as possible so you can get their great armor, which comes packed with a variety of essential stealth enchantments.

Not to be repetitive, but this is my build (I just made a topic about perks):
