Epic things aren't epic

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 4:56 am

The bad thing about Skyrims sacling is that epic things can be bad, if you take it at a low level.

Take for example the Skyforge. [Minor spoilers ahead]

The Skyforge is very hyped, and they make it sound as if Greymane can create a weapon suitable for Chuck Norris.

So I decided to do some Companions with a new char, and he has a Steel sword, he's a low level. So finally I'm getting awarded and get to choose a weapon from the Skyforge. Now I figured I wouldn't get a super-weapon this early on in the quest chain and this low level.

But the Skyforge Steelsword he gave me had 1 or 2 more damage than my regular steel sword. It even looks the same. What's so epic about that? It's not worth talking about man. Avenicci worships him, she has better stuff in stock than that!

So: Make epic thing be epic and make sense!

Agreed on every level. The Skyforge is seriously overrated, even after you finish the Companions questline. Oh what's that? A few new armours that are WAIT FOR IT!!! Worse then everything I already own. Some reward :(

So? Your point is?

I hate the word Legendary, but I don't infect forum threads about it.

Ontopic: Well I just find it so wierd, that he is a higly revered blacksmith, and Avenicci says "Man's steel is legendary" and she has equal or better items in her stock.

It ruins immersion imho.

hehe yeah. Yeah well it's dissapointing hearing everyone talk about the Skyforge and Greymane, and when I finally get something it's barley an upgrade. The player can temper it and make it better even at a low BS-skill, but does he get revered for that?

To be fair, skyforge steel does the exact same damage as an elven sword and its lighter.

I do like my weapons to be epic, if your looking for a real epic weapon that you can "find", Blade of Woe is the most powerful dagger in the game and can be improved twice as much without any perks besides arcane smithing. My Blade of Woe does 174 damage. Mehrune's Razor is not nearly as epic as the Blade of Woe in terms of damage, but it has a very unique look to it and is quite beatiful.

But yeah, I do love my Daedric weapons. Love Daedric everything. That's good stuff right there. I think the reason they don't give NPC's daedric gear is because you can just kill them and take it, or pickpocket them.

I don't know guys...i think it really starts to pull away when you start picking the one-hand perk. same with armors. because my one-hand perk is at level 2 or 3 and my i'm having problem finding anything that rivals my Skyforge at the moment...even an Elven Sword doesn't do as much until improved and even that it's equal it. which is fine. the Skyforge sword fits my RP better anyway...

RFLOL yep, plus I love no matter what armor or weapons I make or upgrade they look the same as the stuff I find lying around the world. The thing that really gets me some time is if I make some old Daedric armor at the skyforge (Brand new) it looks as if I found it in some old tomb and put it on rust and all. Iron armor is the same WTF its new, but looks as if it half rusted. RFLOL.
Even when you unlock the extra stuff at the skyforge you still cant make skyforge steel weapons.
Now going on the other issue about being Epic. Try this, before running off to unleash the dragons by doing X quest. Go to whiterun and do all Companions quest first. Skyforge steal weapon +1 or +2 really helps.

(e.g. the Captain of the Guard in Solitude uses an Iron Greatsword. Like srsly Elisif can't afford him a better sword? Hell, let me make him one ._.).

He wants balance in his combat.

It doesn't bother me that those guys (guards, for example) use crappy weapons. What bothers me is that they kick my ass all over the place while they are using those crappy weapons... but I can't get the same results. If I put on Whiterun Guard Armor and equip an Iron Sword and then pick a fight with a Whiterun Guard, I'm dead inside of one minute and I've barely scratched him even though I do 100% damage with one-handed weapons.

Tiger Woods, in his prime, using a set of Playschool golf clubs, could be beat me using a set of Pings.

It's not the equipment, it's the person using it.
