Monitor your Papyrus log in real-time

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 4:37 am

Hi all. Just wanted to share this neat utility with you all, called http://snakenest.com/snaketail/. It can monitor the Papyrus log file in real-time, so you can do live debugging with the log open.

Using this while playing Skyrim would probably best be done with Skyrim in windowed mode, and / or with a second monitor to display the log. You can also configure it to http://i.imgur.com/6eGYb.jpg when certain keywords are encountered. Just point it at your Papyrus.0.log file, and leave the window open while you play Skyrim. You should see it update and scroll to the bottom automatically.

Enjoy.

P.S. Another Tail utility for Windows, called http://tailforwin32.sourceforge.net/, did not work for me for Papyrus log files. Probably has something to do with the way Skyrim locks the log file during play. SnakeTail seems to work great.

Thanks for this. I run a dual-monitor setup and often wished I could do this. Like you I tried tail, but it never returned anything before Skyrim closed.

Just tried it. AWESOME. This is going to help me immensely.

Just bumping this in case it's relevant to someone's interests and they didn't see it when it was posted.
