Is there a Carve tool?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 8:53 am

I'm guessing the answer to this question is no, since I can't find a carve tool in the Creation Kit or mention of one on Google, unless it's called something else in the editor...? Basically I've got a wall that I want a hole in and there are no static pieces with holes already in them. The piece is question is WHIntWoodRoofMid01, I want a small door way through it.

I've been pondering a clever little workaround for this for quite awhile.
  • You grab your wall and put it into place
  • Take note of the model that piece uses
  • Extract the mesh
  • Open it in NifSkope
  • View > Block List > Show Blocks in List
  • Remove any bhkCollisionObject Nodes (this should remove in-game collision)
  • Substitute your old model for your new one (I would recommend creating a new base object otherwise this will affect all instances of that object)
  • Now that you have a collision free wall, use an occlusion plane to generate a hole in the render
  • Cover the rest of your wall with collision planes to compensate for its fresh lack of collision
  • Clean up general presentation of wall and around it, if necessary
I haven't put any of this to the test yet but I have no reason to believe its something that can't be done.

The short answer is no.

You're either going to have to learn the whole process of converting the nif to obj, editing it in blender, then converting back to nif...or just try and get imaginative with the pieces we're given.

Personally, i'de go for Option B myself...

EDIT: Ninja'd...Antares idea above sounds promising...

Couldn't you just put an actual physical door right up against the wall, and make it teleport you? Or does it specifically need to be a non-door opening with line of sight into the next room?

Yes to your second question.
