Final Boss Fight - Better than Alduin?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:08 pm

I've got to say, I think the fight against Harkon was better than the final battle against Alduin.

Partially because you aren't forced to share the glory with four other guys.

It reminded me of a Skyrim version of Castlevania's final level.

What did you think guys?

I still enjoyed Alduin's fight better because of the setting. Harkon's fight was still cool though :P

I enjoyed them both!
It did kinda have a Castlevania feel to it!

Alduin's was bad, killing the same creature for the HUNDREDTH time. As least for Harkon you hadn't fought a VL before.

I found both equally good, neither lasted more then 2 minutes but they both where pretty good fights. I did how ever enjoy killing Harkon more but that's because of the little speach he gave me after I refused his offer. Something along the lines of me being prey? Not a very wise thing to say to an old werewolf, I enjoyed ripping the flesh from his bones while in beast form

Alduin with deadly dragons on hardcoe is one of the hardest things to kill in gaming. But I agree that Harkon had more effects and it was done better, still too easy, but I don't complain about bethesda's easy bosses since Dagoth Ur.

Agreed, on both counts. I remember back when his health was about 10 times more than it should have been... Was entertaining to say the least. In a future update to DD, Alduin will have the same damage as a Legendary Dragon, but with about 30% more health.. He'll also be a static creature and not scale with player level.

Back to topic. I haven't actually completed either questline yet (dragging the DLC out as far as possible), but I've watched a video and the Harkon fight was much better mechanics wise than Alduin, who was just a generic dragon with both breath types & a weather effect shout. The setting & build-up for Alduin was better in my opinon.. The actual fight itself svcked.

Alduin was a total letdown, the Mannimarco-Moment of TES V.

The fights against Vyrthur and Harkon on the other hand were the best bosses I've ever seen in TES, especially the setting in the fight against Vyrthur was incredible. For those two alone Dawnguard was worth it.

Totally agree! A truly colossal fight!! How many battles involve getting a bloody building thrown at you?

Vyrthur was the best fight in the game! Frozen falmer, crashing buildings and the climix on the highest point of the forgotten vale

When I think about it even Durnehviir and the twin dragons in the Forgotten Valley were better done than Alduin . It gives more to do when he summons undead or they dive and emerge from ice and it makes the battle more epic and showy than with an avarage dragon. I seriously like the way bethesda handled bosses in dawnguard and I wish they will keep this up. Keep them easy, but with a lot of mechanics and little cutscenes.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I have to agree with this, you cannot beat fighting the world-eater in the afterlife of the nords fighting along 3 famous nord heros all using the Thu'um :)

This as well as the battle with the twins on the frozen lakes in the Vale. Harkon was a lot of fun too. All better then Alduin. I enjoyed exploring Sovngard more then that fight.

This. Confronting Vyrthur is the best moment in Skyrim in my opinion.

I prefer the Harkon confrontation, especially when playing on the Dawnguard side. The fight between the two factions on the castle grounds was a nice build-up, but the Dawnguard not losing a man didn't ring true. I think some of them should have bit it.

The only way to actually do that is to bring a couple out as companions and just stand back and watch as they get mauled by something, but you gotta deal the final blow

I still say that Alduin should've had hundreds of thousands of health points.

My issue is that Harkon actually knows how to use the Vampire powers effectively, which was rather frightening at some points. But that's what made it fun as hell!

Vyrthur, from a cinematical approach was epic--- but there wasn't enough substance. It was merely a fight against his minions... Vyrthur should of had more bite to back his bark.

Harkon's fight had its moments... but again- no bite.

Alduin's was an epic let down from both a cinematical AND depth standpoint.

Lord Harkon in his Vampire Lord Form would mop the floor with Alduin. Hell yeah hes a better final boss.

Harkon was quite a pain still dont see why people see that blood dragon that fell in a tarpit as a boss.
