Season Unending And Order Quests

Post » Wed Nov 21, 2012 4:09 am

Hey guys and girls,

I have been playing Skyrim since the release and finished everything on my first playthrough with nearly 300 hours played. I regurlary check the Skyrim Wikia to see what I can do and recently I saw the I missed a certain quest called "Season Unending". The reason for this is probably that I finished the civil war questline before ending the main questline.

I am busy playing my second playthrough now (level 40 already) and I want to know how I best deal with the remaining quests. I still have to start the College of Winterhold and The Dark Brotherhood, The Civili War and have done a few quests of the main story. Everthing else is already done and almost all locations have been found.

What would be the best order to do the quests in, to make sure I can do everything, the game doesn't freeze because some quest become undoable when others have been completed and so on.

Lastly does "Season Unending" have large consequences regarding the world of Skyrim and most importantly the Civil War questline?

Thanks for your time.

Season Unending will bring a halt to the Civil War until you finish the Main Quest. After that, the ceasefire will be over and you can play it out (or not) from the point where you left off when you negotiated the ceasefire. If you are going to try and play the CW and MQ concurrently I recommend reading the UESP page for Season Unending because there are some glitches that can occur if you hit Season Unending in the MQ when you are at certain points in the CW - most notably near the beginning of the CW questline.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Season_Unending#Notes

The quest really has no consequences other than stopping the war while you deal with the dragon problem, and the fact that some cities will change hands in the course of the negotiations which means a different Jarl will be running things there until/unless you play out the CW afterwards and your side takes the city back. You may also have to fight different battles for your side because of the territory that was gained or lost as a result of negotiating the ceasefire.

If there is another particular quest that you want to do, I would suggest looking at its page at UESP to see if there are any known bugs because of other quests that you may be trying to do at the same time. There are just SO many quests, and I don't think the primary quests of the different factions cause problems so much as the vast number of side quests and radiant faction quests that can get tangled up sometimes because of shared target locations or NPCs.

I will tell you that if you join both the DB and the Stormcloaks, you can get to a point in the DB quests where the final battle of the CW can't be done because Ulfric will block it until you finish the DB stuff. That's not a glitch, just the game's way of keeping you from having two quests active that conflict with each other because of the locations involved.

Based on the wiki, I would save the CW for last. Too many quests are premised on the starting positions of the Jarls/holds. The CW totally scrambles faction alliances.
