So... I'm Thinking Abstractly Here...

Hermaeus Mora is the Daedric Prince of knowledge and memory, his sphere is the scrying of the tides of Fate, of the past and future as read in the stars and heavens.

This much is known.

But he didn't have the secrets of the Skaal and something like that doesn't sit well with him. The Skaal are a noble group of people who would gladly lay down their lives for their beliefs. Herma Mora knows this. He also knows that they would do whatever it takes to protect their beliefs and their way of life.

Do you suppose that Hermaeus Mora set this entire fiasco up between you and Miraak just to gain the secrets of the Skaal?

"Hook, Line, and Sinker."

Miraak; the hook
His return; the line
You gaining the ability to defeat him; the sinker

Miraak's return doesn't just threaten the Skaal, but their way of life as well.

I know it seems a little dramatic, but if you have all the parts- why not?

Just a thought.

Perhaps. Perhaps the all-maker allowed it to happen for the good of the dragonborn too. Hard to say what exactly transpired until we see the consequences, but yes at this point of time it looks like Mora and you won.

Just seems like Herma Mora is the real winner here... Truly a tragic tale, this story. Which makes it that much more amazing. Just wish the MQ could have been longer.

I don't know, I like to trust the wisdom of hundred(s) year old Telvanni wizads - "So Hermaeus Mora finds a new way to skin a horker and you become the second greatest dragonborn that has ever lived".

Frea also tells you that you can resist Mora and go your own path, and that Aka made you for a specific reason (given that the Skaal have a deep connection with Aka, I trust the shaman's perspective). So you still pretty much won. We'll have to see if you overtake that #1 dragonborn spot to see if you really won though ;)

lol, perhaps I'm just thinking from my main character's perspective. The fact that you had to sacrifice a life in order to gain said ability... It was a loss.

Certainly wasn't the nicest situation.. but we can only wait and see how it all works out.

Just a note: I do agree that it is, as it stands now, kind of tragic with many different elements. This is one of the better displays of writing Beth has given us in a while, just wish it was longer.

The way I see it; Herma Mora gained Skaal secrets and got to keep a Dragonborn on his team.

But yeah, you could EASILY see yourself role-playing someone on the stance of "See yourself become the villain."

When he stuck his tentacles into the Shaman, I wanted to just walk over and cut the tentacles so bad. I really wish we could have. He still would have died, granted, but at least we could feel a little less helpless to stop what happened.

Or shout Tiid Klo Ul / Wuld Nah Kest and tackle him out of the way. Whatever works.

Just a lot of parts in this DLC where the cinematics made you feel a lot more helpless then you actually should have been. Bugged me a lot.

Yeah, the moment the shaman got all 'tentacled up' I couldn't help but look at Frea and think "I'm so very sorry." I was certain I would be shunned from the village after that.

"Hi, I brought evil into your village to kill your shaman, still wanna be friends?"

Although I like Hermie I really didn't like that scene; I really felt bad about it. o_o Anyhow I like your theory; I agree it could of been Mora just wanting the knowledge of the Skaal. I mean he's pretty clever, and kinda scheming too (though that's more Mephala's thing but eh... whatever)... and he gets a new pet out of it.
