I maybe had 12 fights in all, and I had the most excellent time
I must say that sometimes people say that Skyrim (and most modern games for that matter) are geared for the player to always win, and while this can be true to a certain extent in vanilla Skyrim, the sheer quantity of stuff you can do in Skyrim besides the fighting is what makes the game just so…relaxing for me. Playing Dark Souls, especially the first play through, can be such stressful experience (but hugely rewarding too) but sometimes it is just awesome to just sandbox in Skyrim because it is such a varied game world. While the apparent freedom has a few limited options to quests and storylines, for me Skyrim is a game much more defined by is salient stories, the ones where you might remember more am epic fight where you where fighting a dragon and all of a sudden a bear joined in, or finding an awesome seemingly random encounter in the wilderness.
There might be games that do things better than Skyrim; Dark Souls has better combat, Dishonored has better level design, Red Dead Redemption has mini games and deeper quests etc…but for a complete sheer immersive power Skyrim is unmatched for me. That is the reason why I keep coming back to it after I am done with other games.
