How to create a spell so a follower can heal the player?

I'd like to give my companion the ability to cast spells like restoration to heal the player when needed? I'm not sure how to go about this in Skyrim however. Are there any examples out there? In particular the coding needed to handle it. I assume it would have to be in a script attached directly to the companion itself and constantly detect for things like low health, poisoned, etc.
