[RELz] Hi-Resolution Menu Background

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:08 am

Hi guys, just a quick one I thought I'd share. Got a real problem with lower resolution backgrounds designed for consoles and HDTV displays so I thought I'd crop the higher resolution official wallpaper that was partially used for FO:NV's main menu background.

Extract to the Data folder in your Fallout New Vegas directory. Don't think you need any ArchiveInvalidation, I didn't personally. Also included an alternate background if that's your thing.

Enjoy it, if you like!

I don't even have the game yet, but thanks! One of the first things I noticed from the screenshots was the menu background that looked like it was from 1993.

It was only 1024x512... that kind of vertical resolution is pretty archaic! Also, in case anyone gets any funny ideas about the aspect ratios, that's just how Gamebyro seems to roll AFAIK. I did the same thing back with Bloodmoon and Tribunal, even Morrowind's splash screens had seemingly askew aspect ratios that then stretched/distorted to their correct AR ingame.

Its because its an actual surface texture (that's why its DDS) rather than an image, so the sizes must be POW2 and fit within DirectX/GPU texture sizes, eg 512, 1024, 2048 ...
