Not recognizing the disc is a serious problem. I hate to say it, but I've been waiting for posts like yours.
I've see this every time a huge game is released. There's a large group of PS3 owners that state the game started "bugging out", then wouldn't recognise the disc, and eventually it stops recognising more and more of their discs till it simply won't play any more Bluerays.
Not only have I seen this, but it happened to me to once on my 80g PS3 I had for just over a year.
I don't mean to scare you, and I hate to be the barer of bad news, but it seems to me your blueray laser is frying out. It's been frying for a while now, but it took a huge game like Fo:NV to begin killing it. You're going to start to see your PS3 slowly begin having problems playing more and more of your games. I'd say you have about two months till it won't play any blurays at all.
Lots of factors could have caused this, but it's always because of heat. Check your vents to make sure they're clear.
