When is Quake 4 coming to STEAM?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:06 am

Hi, I noticed that the only instance to buy Quake 4 online is on http://www.impulsedriven.com/quake4.
Why then it is not available on Steam along with ALL other Quake games? Everyone knows 99% of PC gamers use Steam as their preferred gaming distribution system.
Personally, I wouldn't like to set up a different account just to get it from Impulse; not a very appealing store to me, even more now they're owned by GameStop.

Hope this echoes in other gamer's minds (and the people who are distributing Quake 4 :P).

Quake 4 is published by Activision, you'd have to ask them. I don't know why they haven't put this up on Steam when so many other Activision-published Raven-developed games are there.

Actually this is really weird: on the Impulse website it appears that Bethesda is the publisher of all Quake games: http://www.impulsedriven.com/publisher/bethesda_softworks
While on Steam, id Software appears as the publishing company for the Quake series: http://store.steampowered.com/publisher/id%20Software

No sign of Activision...does this means that if we want Quake 4 on Steam, id Software has to allow it? Then why would Bethesda publish the games on Impulse only, when they could have just transfered the rights from id Software...?

Anyways, in this case, who's should we contact in order to ask for a Steam release of Quake 4: id Software? Bethesda? Raven Software :S?

Quake 4 was developed by Raven, and published by Activision. That's probably why it's not available on Steam with the other id games.

Never played Quake 4, but I'd pick it up in a heartbeat if it were released on Steam.

Yeah. iD did help as they usually do with their engines, but left this one up to Raven to develop for the most part and cuz Raven is an Activision dev Activision holds most rights to this title. and Since Axtivision doesnt take stock in many of their older games being worth anything to be on a DDC and the turmoil between Valve and Vivendi(now Activisions problem) there is a Slim chance anything that isnt new from the extensive activision catalogue will ever be on steam. or on sale on steam. this includes many great games. EA has a similar stance on reviving older games as well, but are more selective in which ones they are willing too.

For a Publisher its mostly support at this point. with a DDC distro is taken care of, but when you release an older title you have a plethora of new issues that will need support and then a dev team to handle those issues. most titles lose support from the Pub within 18 months. If you are looking for a DDC that is Support free its GOG. and you will find Q4 there aswell. But in my opinion this valve activision BS should be done with. Activision doesnt have a stake in any DDC and there are sales and profit to be had with the release of some key titles.
