Controller Support For Gaming Wheels & Pedals

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:06 am

Does anyone know if gaming wheels like the Logitech, Fanatec, ECCI, TSW, CST, NIXIM, etc. will be supported? ETQW has vehicles but doesn't support any wheel controls so I stopped playing it. I'm just hoping that RAGE will support controlling land vehicles with an actual wheel.

Why would it matter if there's shooting too? Wheel & pedal sets include buttons on the wheel for things like guns. I know Carmack likes driving, so I'm just hoping that RAGE includes support for a controller which will make it fun...heck even if it just supported a Logitech MoMo I'd put mine back together. Trying to flick a car around a track with a digital controller is just a horrible experience for most people.

That's what I thought when I tried using my Logitech MoMo Racing Wheel in ETQWs. I used the tech guide for selecting the wheel as the controller which works with joysticks, but it just didn't work. Other forum members tried it as well without any luck. The problem is that id didn't use any packaged controller support...they created their own. Consequently ETQW only works on controllers which they support and no wheels are supported. I'm just totally hoping that since RAGE has a much larger vehicle component then they will look into using a packaged controller support module or at least spend the extra couple of days to at least support the MoMo since it's by far the most common and readily available wheel.

ETQW has two components. The a modified ID Tech 4 Engine, And the Game ETQW. ID software makes ID Tech 4; witch has support for many kinds of input devices, including wheels. ETQW, made by splash damage, dose not support wheels.

I know the feeling. I'd love to see ID Tech 5 support 12+ mouse buttons. LIke many logitech and other high end gaming mice. Or how about about the Novent Faclon force feedback gaming stick. Or for instance 3D space Navigator, flight sticks, extra.

Thanks for the info...I can only hope more posts like yours finds their way in here and stimulate concern that RAGE won't last long if players grow weary of frustration trying to race with a mouse & keyboard.

Still no word on whether we can use a gaming wheel or not in a racing game? With a 2011 release date someone at Bethesda or idSoftware must have some clue whether popular vehicle controllers (wheel & pedals) will be supported.

Hey guys.
Does anyone know if the xbox360 Conroller (for Windows) will be supported?

I hope, it′s ok to ask in this topic, don′t wanted to start a new one just for one question...

I was looking at one of the concept pictures and had a vision of playing with my logitech wheel. I would really like to be able to do this. I think it would be a blast. Driving with my keyboard is not something I like. This could be a pass for me if there isn't any support for driving hardware.

It's OK with me...and I can actually answer this...the very first demonstration of Tech 5 was with RAGE at QuakeCon 2007 simultaneously on an Xbox 360, PS2, and PC all using an xbox360 style controller. Console gamers have nothing to fear from being able to use their built-in controllers...it's the PC users with their almost limitless availability of controller options that are always concerned.

Thank you for posting! I was starting to worry that I was the only one that wanted to drive a vehicle with a wheel & pedals. I thought ETQW was an awesome game, but quickly grew very bored because the vehicles were unwieldy to control. Since RAGE is supposed to show off idTech 5 and idTech 5 includes Wheel & Pedal support then I'm very hopefull that we will get to drive the vehicles.
