Rage Multiplayer

Is there going to be online multiplayer modes like Team Deathmatch and Objective game types or just Co-op campaign?

I think the multiplayer in RAGE will probably be similar to the multiplayer in the past Quake games.

i know i won't be buying unless we get objective-based MP. KotH/CtF/Deathmatch variants don't cut it for me. I'm not looking for another RtCW (though that would be nice -- class-based 'wave spawns' were awesome), but i'm not interested in chaotic, unstructured mess.

Honestly, It would be best if there is Co-op mode. That will differentiate the game from other titles in a quite unique way.

Anyway, even if there are only the standard modes such as; CTF, DM, TDM etc. and no multiplayer at all, please don't be that critical.

All I expect is an immersive single player with great storytelling and many twists. Think of Half life ...

fair enough. perhaps 'i won't be buying unless etc' was a bit of a kneejerk reaction, as i'm sure the SP will hold up well enough on it's own. however longevity is a big issue for me with this title, and whereas the SP might be great for a few weeks, truly great MP would stretch this to months -- even years. take my RtCW example for instance -- when it was released in '01, the SP was all well and good, but i lost interest after about 2 weeks -- however the MP kept me hooked for five solid years. ETQW could have accomplished this but the dev support just wasn't up to scratch -- it was abandoned after a few months and the game disappeared into obscurity. as long as the devs are dedicated to their product beyond the obligatory DLC somewhere down the line, i'm sure it won't be a problem -- but we need dedicated servers, SDK, and preferably no ranking system in order to keep user-created content alive and well. the community should be able to run itself long after dev support is gone, and 'ranked' servers are a big hindrance in that regard. tournament mods, admin bots, and custom maps are a GOOD thing -- let's not shut them out for the sake of stat padding.

I don't think we know if there's going to be multiplayer or not but I'm fine with co-op.

Maybe a TDM and CTF mode for competitive play if they decide to make it competitive. but co-op is a must have for this kind of game.

I think we are just loosing our time speculating. I suspect that the multiplayer will be nothing like what we imagine, but perhaps Id developed something new and unseen.
Something, which might be totally different from any co-op or classic modes. Who knows ?

Anyway, I am a 100% confident that they will announce it during the next Quakecon.

I would rather have split-screen.

That all I have to say

I wouldn't have bought the game if it didn't have multiplayer, but I know it does. I've uploaded some MP 'sneak peaks' to my youtube channel. Just go to http://youtube.com/GamesRAGE and browse some of my videos to have a look. I will also be posting more info on my forum: http://RAGEForums.org/

In a recent interview (PC Gamer, March issue), Tim Willits commented that he can't tell them anything about multiplayer yet, but that if you think for a second, you can probably figure out what [multiplayer] is going to be.

I'm not very familiar with id's past games, nor with FPSs in general, but presumably that's a pretty big hint for those who are.

PS: I can do a full summary (not transcript) of the interview in another thread if it hasn't been posted yet, but I don't think there'll be much new info.

Tim has always been repeating the same thing, but that still doesn't mean a lot to me. He also mentioned that the multiplayer will have a rage feeling to it in order to be in harmony with the title.
Any ideas what does that mean?

Anyway, I've been looking recently at the interior level design, and it doesn't seem to work for co-op mode.
It is somehow too narrow, and imagine what will happen if both players have access to RC cars, dozens of machine-gun turrets and other support gadgets.
It will be a mess.

I believe that the multiplayer will be somehow different from all this.
Like I said before, it might be a completely different mode from what we've experienced in gaming so far.
