Games for Windows Live support

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:21 am

Im new around here, but I have been playing id games for as long as they have been around and I have always played them on the PC.

I am requesting that id add Games for Windows Live support so that people who choose to purchase the PC version of the game will be able to earn achievements and such.

The PC will clearly be the superior version of the game, but there are some of us who feel that achievements provide additional incentives for gamers to play games long after they have beaten them.

Please consider this. Thanks!

I hope no. GFWL is region restricted and only support 26 countries, earn your pointless achievements on Xbox please. I hope it will be DRM free or only has disc check, serial protection like other id games before.

It's fine to disagree but it isn't necessary to insult him - please refrain from flaming in the future.

At the moment Bethesda seems to be moving away from GFWL in favor of Steam (which also does achievements I believe). However RAGE was in developement for a while before Bethesda became the publisher so I don't know what's already been planned.

I would like to say I hope there is no Steam requirement for the disc version

I can understand it needing Steam if it's downloaded from there & a steam option if it's bought on a disc

I sure hope not. Not because I have anything against GFWL, it's just that GFWL chooses not to work on my PC.

We also take a dim view of platform bashing.

Some posts have been deleted. If there are any further problems in this thread I will be handing out warnings.

Make GFWL optional.

Its that simple. Don't make it a requirement, but its a fun way for gamers like me to get some extra life out of the game as long as it doesn't include ridiculous grind-it-out online-only achievements

I'm glad to hear that Bethesda is moving away from GFWL. I've been running Steam for over a decade and it's a solid application with a solid patch delivery system and account features. I had to install GFWL to play BioShock2 and it wouldn't download my patch. I spent two weeks troubleshooting and discovered that GFWL uses it's own TCP/IP stack just like a rootkit...my security settings wouldn't allow it to run....not bashing...just providing my anolysis results. Also, Steam has an offline mode which rocks.

Seems like Steamworks is the path Beth is taking for their future published titles.

No more GFWL.

there is a reason bethesda moved away from GFWL..........its a horrible service. STEAM has achievements if you need them.

Steam's cheevos are better anyways. There's no arbitrary 1000 point limit per game or anything like that.

PLEASE DON'T have Games for Windows Live. I hate that system. Anything but that, I can't play Dawn of war 2 properly or even dirt 2. Considering Dawn of War Retribution dropped GFWL now it should mean something. That system svckssss.

GFWL is horrible please don't use it, having it in dirt 2 was frustrating enough already.

Vote to NOT have GFWL. If any DRM, please use Steamworks. Thanks.

Another vote for NOT using gfwl please. Its encrypted save game system is a mess, and it gives a lot of people trouble with their routers/ports in multiplayer. Achievements are nice, but you could use Steamworks for that, which actually works most of the time. There is a reason most of the PC gaming community puts up with Steam drm (its pros outweights its cons), but violently hate gfwl.
