Each hotel is supposed to be a megaton...what? The strip has been said to be the size of four megatons anyone know the size of freeside and what else makes up the city besides freeside and the strip?

One game journalist estimated that Freeside was 10 times the size of Megaton. As for what else makes up Vegas, I'm not overly sure. Though we know there's the McCarren Airport (which is likely big seeing as it's the NCR's HQ in Vegas). I assume the rest is other settlements with their own quests and such.

And is there a problem with each casino/hotel being the size of a Megaton? You make it sound like a bad thing.

Not a problem at all although there are what eight casinos and each are the size of megaton? Than freeside is 10 and the strip is 4 so were looking at 22 megatons and that's not including the other areas that make up vegas? How is new vegas the same size as fallout 3?

It had a sweet loading screen. I thought it was just a black screen with a roulette wheel but that must have just been for E3.

I noticed that wastelander he shot looped his arm around. Better getting shot shot animations? woohoo!

Also in the load screen it shows those little tidbits. NCR are trying to get in good with House and the gangs but not much luck.

Hey, some PC gameplay!

If Freeside is 10x the size of Megaton, than how big would it be on the map? Would be disappointing knowing it's a big chunk of the map.

Then again, maybe New Vegas isn't the size of Fallout 3...

Can't take up too much of the map remember there's still hoover dam which should be a nice size. There's also primm, goodsprings, boulder city, black mountain, repcon, dinky the dinasour, some camps, the strip and more!

I feel some of the size things might be a tad exaggerated.. Just saying. If they aren't, I'd love it. But, I'm just saying.

Well its because the city itself will likely be the equivelamt of downtown DC. so they should have the same kind of balance between city and wasteland. If you think about it DC was probley about 30 megatons if FO3.

22 Megatons isn't that much. New Vegas is probably going to be close in size to the Imperial City in Oblivion, which while an impressive size was a small portion of Cyrodiil (the land you roam in Oblivion).

Also let me mathematically break down the size of Fallout 3 for you. Fallout 3 has 289 "cells" (a 17x17 grid since it's a square). Now each of those cells is broken down into nine smaller boxes, and just one of those boxes equals the size of Megaton.

289 x 9 = 2,601 - 22 [the amount of Megatons that New Vegas is estimated to be equal in size to] = 2,579 available squares. In total if the Mojave Wasteland is the same size as the Capitol Wasteland, then New Vegas will only take up about two and a half squares out of 289 at most. Even if it's three or four New Vegas is still not a huge portion of the game, just a big ass settlement.

How cramped will the map be though? Hoover dam is another location that's going to be massive as well...I'm sure there will be a lot of open space in the desert but I just don't see how that's possible if this game is the same size as fallout 3.

Looking good. Not bothered by it being cut up, especially if it is big.

Well when the developers say the size of Fallout 3, they are talking about the exterior, the wasteland as a whole. However, you have to remember there are interior parts, so while the outdoors may be the same size, with more indoor space, New Vegas could technically be larger than Fallout 3.

Here's hoping Megaton becomes a way of measuring space in the Fallout games! :nuke:

Considering that D.C. was separated into different world spaces in Fallout 3, it comes as no surprise that the same would apply to New Vegas. Now it would have been nice if there could be no loading screens between each section, that there could be seamless transitions (The walls could still be there if it seemed appropiate, you would just physically walk through the gate rather than activating the door and teleporting in after a loading screen.) but since I don't think the current engine could handle that, I'll just be glad if you can go directly through gates instead of needing to explore long underground dungeons like in Fallout 3 just to get around the city.
