Best mods?

Post » Tue Feb 08, 2011 8:28 pm

There are so many mods it seems already and I am quite frankly overwhelmed. Can anyone recommend me a few mods? I've downloaded the mod manager and I've also downloaded the realism mod.

I would also like to know if there's any mod to allow rifles to be rested on the shoulder vertical, rather than across horizontal across the back.

Cheers.

No. And I doubt there ever will as that would require animation tweaks, which few people are good enough to do/want do do.

That's disappointing. I thought I might be in luck considering that people made mods in Oblivion where the shields rested on the back.

That is unrelated. Completely different setup.

Yes it does! *Throws pen down with angry face*

XD

On another note, the one and only must have I will ever endorse.

I agree with Echonite that DarN's UI is the only real "must-have", although I also strongly recommend that you use [src="http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36730"]CASM:NV, which will allow you to completely forgot about saving and always have plenty of recent saves to fall back on if need be.

CASM is definitely a good idea. There are still a lot of issues in NV that will cripple your saves, not having back ups can lose you a lot of time. I personally never play without

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34888 - Whether it looks better is debatable but making it actually get dark at night is critical for me.
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36646 - Mostly because I dislike the 1 sleeved armour look, but the pipboy looks pretty awesome regardless so it's a win win. It looks great with DarnUI as well.
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34744 - because the vanilla third person camera is wonky.
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34950 - because it takes about 10 minutes to find stuff in your inventory without it
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35591 - Not a gameplay mod, what it does is increase the distance at which the game draws the bullet impact animation (kicked up dust, blood spray etc) without it it's almost impossible to tell where your shots are going at long range, plus it just looks better.
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35344 - the default radio only has 15 tracks. Can't listen to the radio for more than an hour before turning it off without this mod
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34978 - use this to make the light white and a bit brighter, the default colour causes some horrible over bright reflections, and the brightness is for Fellout, so you can find dropped guns and the like (still much darker than vanilla obviously)
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35631 - spend less time holding down tab

Aside from DarN's UI, this is the only 100% mandatory New Vegas mod: http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36850

Can anyone recommend me a few mods? I've downloaded the mod manager and I've also downloaded the realism mod.

Which realism mod? It would help to know what style of gameplay you're looking for, and there are many different takes on "realism" (Ie. is it Arwen's realism gameplay-balance mod, Hardercore, or a different one? Arwen's and Hardercore both approach combat from opposite directions).

The configuration I'm currently trying is mainly Hardercore, Craft Overhaul and Pointiac (Plus a bunch of minor stuff: DUI, CASM, Two perk mods, perk every level, two backpack mods, Imp's timescale adjuster, Fellout, etc) but it's not without its flaws. Kobu's Crafting Backpack doesn't mesh with Craft Overhaul and stuff like that, not sure which one is to blame (Craft Overhaul is 'to blame' for adding a new bench type, but I think it's Kobu's that doesn't make non-standard crafting items available at the benches it does integrate with... but anyway it's still better than not having one).

But yeah, what's your gameplay goal?

He didn't ask for mandatory mods, he asked for good ones.

Installed Arwen's realism gameplay-balance mod.

I want the game to be more difficult basically, but especially focused more on immersion.

I have already installed quite a few of the suggested mods. Thanks guys!

Cool! Had those for FO3, hoped to find them for NV. *rushes off to grab*

Did I read Sprint Mod? I'd better go find that, then. I must have that :)

IMO the best and must-have? Darn UI.
There are others but they haven't been made (for NV) yet ;)
