What's the point of picking sides?

So when the game first launches, you have to choose your side... Security or Resistance. But upon doing so you immediately find out you can freely switch back and forth simply by pressing Y or by just choosing the other side's missions.

Whats the point of choosing a side when you can be both? I'd really prefer each character to stick to each side... seems like the characters would feel more worthwhile that way.

Your Character sticks with what you chose, notice when youre at the main screen you stay with your original side.

personal preference?

Also, they meant to have it so that when you started, you had to play straight through the campaign and couldnt switch until you did...

Wow where did you hear it was intended for just one side until campaign completion? If that's true... what a massive oversight wtf

I recall something a good while back, a dev talking about how if you picked resistance, you could play through the resistance campaign, and once you completed it, you could switch sides and play as security. Otherwise, you could just pick free play and play however you wanted... Something along those lines...
