Trait Respec involved with story?

Post » Mon Feb 28, 2011 4:20 pm

I was wondering whether the new option to respec our character's traits (and most importantly, cap their level) is just something thrown in for people who want to limit themselves, or if it has anything to do with the storyline of Old World Blues.
I thought that there might be an event that physically affects the courier, changing their body or mind in some way. A few people have said they think the enemies in the new footage could be Lobotomites, and we know from Christine that there are machines in the Big Empty that work on brains. I'm hoping the courier will end up in one of these, and upon exiting will be able to respec their traits. I really hope we don't just get the option for no reason at the start of the DLC.

Then again, how will this trait work for those who have already played through Dead Money (and Honest Hearts), and gone past level 30? Will it just remove all skill points and perks earned since then?

1. As I understand it, by picking the level cap trait, it will either:
A. Cap your level at 30, if you are not at that level yet, or
B. Cap your level at your current level, if you are already over 30.

2. I hope you don't go through some kinda brain surgery or some other such contrived means as the mechanism to respec your traits. I have some characters that are of a small frame body type. How would brain surgery make them physically larger? Or have better eyesight? Or less reckless? Or less "Wlid Wastelandy"?

Brain surgery is what gave you your first traits, it would seem fitting that the same thing resets them.

Not exactly, the Traits are yours already, you just get them by filling out a medical history form.

Well, for Wild Wasteland, it could make you hallucinate more (or less, if you want to remove it).

I'm going with this. Precisly because is supports my argument, as I had nothing else to back it up. :hubbahubba: Thanks Digga.

With no possible way of knowing I had these traits before being shot, I respectfully disagree. Waking up and having barely any memory, I can't imagine my courier remembered his/her entire medical history.

The courier doesn't have amnesia. I'm certain it's been confirmed by Sawyer.

Looking at this image posted by The Enclave: http://the--enclave.deviantart.com/gallery/30110666#/d3fusd7 The courier is wearing some sort of hospital gown, and is wearing the same headgear as the enemies we expect to be the Lobotomites. Either we're involved in some sort of surgery/operation, we decide to take off our armor and wear a gown, or we are forced to.

I do that all the time. I like the breezy feeling on my tushy. I suspect you might be on to something, now that I've thought about it. While I would have no problem with a simple pop-up asking me if I want to switch traits similar to the pop-up when you leave Goodsprings, I guess that, considering the devs who worked on the DLC, we'll probably see some type of in-game rationale for changing our traits.

I wonder if adding/removing Wild Wasteland will affect the weapons that are exclusive to the traits. Will you lose the YCS/186 if you add Wild Wasteland? Will you get the Alien Blaster to replace it?
