Does the Xbox have any games similar to MAG?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:31 am

Basically I'm wondering whether the Xbox has any exclusive titles, which have helped them prepare for Brink and the more complex requirement that it brings about in terms of gameplay? I know the PS3 has MAG, which was highly objective-oriented, and I'm sure that the players that excelled at MAG will for a while be the best players in Brink, simply because games like BF2BC, Halo and COD does not require you to think as much and pay attention to as many things. I'm not bashing these games, it's just a fact; a fact that has made them appeal to the masses. But anyway, does Xbox have any such titles?

Peace,
Mem

not really unless you consider gears of war. you have to think in that game, or you will be dead. you have to use team work to, and flank enemies and you have to duck in cover or else you are just dead. but i don't think it's anywhere near the type of game mag is. not sure.

I've only played the demo but it seems that http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enemy_Territory:_Quake_Wars has an 360 version, that had classes and class-based objectives.

(never played MAG and haven't seen all brink trailers yet so I can't really comment on how all these games compare)

LOL. Stop overrating MAG's teamwork aspect. Being a MAG player isn't going to make you better at this game than someone else.

Here's some footage of ME playing MAG, for anyone who's wondering just what the heck the OP is rambling on about..........

Sorry but MAG is terrible; in theory it's good, but man was that a shoddy game

Wow, because I did mention 'teamwork' as one of the similarities in MAG. It seems like you just used this post to show off and boost your ego. Now, where this game draws parallels with Brink is that it has a series of objectives, where some of them are of higher priorities, and it also forces you to manage more things rather than just running around for kill. However, since you seem like the type of person who reads what he wants to read, I'll give it to you in a simple question.

Do you think that if you had played BF2BC, COD, Halo rather than MAG, do you think you would be equally, or better equipped for the added complexity Brink has?

No. MAG is unique to the PS3. Nothing on 360 can handle 256 players online.

i would say the closest thing to MAG is BFC2. MAG is just to legit to be able to copy plus the 360 couldn't hold up to support this game

I think the Xbox could probably support 256 people in a game.

Just because it's not on XBOX (or anything like it) doesn't mean it can't handle it. Maybe they just don't want to spend the money to attempt to make it? I'm almost positive the number of players in a game doesn't depend on the console itself, but more or less the the server in which the game is hosted on (player location, movement, and weapon fire/hit data, etc) -- which the 360 can do as well. I think Zipper probably set up their server(s) do it doesn't register people who aren't in a certain area. That would explain why the framerate gets real bad when there are a lot of players in one location, compared to when they're spread out. Of course, this is just speculation, because Sony/Zipper has never said how their network structure works to support 256 players in one game, so I can't say for certain if the 360 could support it, as someone else can't prove it couldn't either.

You're seriously overstating the complexity of Brink. It's pretty straight-forward. All you really need is the right combination of classes on a team. If you have no medics, yes, you're going to lose. If you have all medics, and can't complete an objective for engineers, you're also obviously going to lose.

XBox cannot handle over 20ish players and have any kind of graphics at all. That's why all the "big" number games are PS3 exclusive.

It's like the difference between an 4G phone and a cell phone. One can just do a lot more than the other.

Actually, it can. Battlefield Bad Company 2 has around 24 players per game, and huge, detailed maps.

ETQW is literally Brink without the SMART system, and in a different setting. Other than that (and no vehicles in Brink), they are the same game. I really am suprised that Splash Damage did not change one bit between making these two games... :/

The Magic is in the server and network code, not the console, and all of us MAG guys know just how well the PS3 can handle 256-player matches when the servers and code aren't up to snuff.
