Dedicated Servers

Well I had the game pre-ordered since Jan 11. I was hessitating to get the game or not because of other launch failures like Home Front and Crysis 2. I bought both of them but only kept Crysis 2. Well last week I was reading twitter and on a post the Lead Team Developer promissed Dedicated Servers, so I jumped on the band wagon againand bought the game. I really can't uderstand why companies are providing D.S. to PC(I know is needed) only. The console sales are way better than the PC sales, and if they want to sell more of their product that's the way to go not the POS P2P. I got rid of Black Ops for the same reason. Crysis 2 has the same host advantage as Gears 2, BLOPS too. The Gears 3 developers are providind D.S. and are being tested right now. As games get better and more demanding, we need better connections but when we use dedicated servers if you lag nobody else has to suffer.

I was a PC gamer, but I got tired of spending a couple of thousands dollars on a gaming rig just to play several games, then the damn pc will be outdated. We are getting more PC games now but for the last couple of years I wasn't like that, so I bought a PS3 because I already had the X360. Also is a matter of comfort, to be able to use the console on my 40" tv, and I'm using my PC right now as a media server and it connected to the same tv but with only the game pad on my hand I can use my couch.

Again no dedicated servers means that we are at the mercy of a laggy host because the game is doing a piss poor job selecting the host, and something tell be that it goes farther than that.

I completely agree with you. Why do PC gamers get preference over consoles when it comes to servers? We console players even paid more for the game, plus the xbox live costs. Other much lower budget games have dedicated servers (for example Section 8: Prejudice). I think this would help the lag a great deal, because you aren't at the mercy of Joe-Bob's wal-mart router and his dial-up internet.

Well the question is, could they go from P2P to Dedicated Servers through an update/patch?

I don't know how different the PC and Xbox builds are but if hey are close I would guess its a possibility. The first step would be to get the XBox community to show their support for it, then it might be something they might consider.

It's not that cut and dry. Most dedicated servers on PC are rented out monthly by clans/individuals who are fans of the game. In Wolf: ET, my clan had 4 servers (1 private; 3 pubs). If Microsoft or PSN was structured such that you could "rent" hosted servers like on PC, things like host advantage and lag would be much less of an issue. I always dreamed that Microsoft would eventually create a massive server farm and virtually host all game sessions with all of the damn money they are making on live. Regardless, the P2P code of this game seems to be the worst most have ever experienced on the console which makes P2P look much worse that it generally is (though granted it's not ideal). At any rate, no way we are getting dedicated servers for this on 360 so all we can do is hope they fix this so it's on par with Halo/COD etc.

No, it's really cut and dry. If you want to have a successful game on XBL or PSN you need dedicated servers. The software companies make more than enough money to support their titles with dedicated servers. Gears of War 3 is a prime example that shows a company caring about their product and their customers. Because Gears 2 had a very poor MP, EPIC designed Gears 3 for dedicated servers.

The lack of dedicated servers only shows how much SP and gamesas don't care about their product or fan base.
