Companion - Gecko - Dialogue - Audio - Ect

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 5:24 pm

Alright, my plan was to make a Companion or at least a 'pet' follower like Rex or E-De. If your Familiar with Deekin from NwN thats exactly what I'm making. ;)
Basically I got some .wav files for things like attack sounds, death sounds ect. I'm pretty confident I found the correct place for those audio files.

When it comes to actual Dialogue Sounds, would this also be the same location where you would place the sounds for attacking/death/running/ect? As I can not get them to show up in the dialogue sound menu unless they are in the audio - sound area...

As for the basic companion aspect. I've found people stating I should use the VNPCfollowers and follow that, I svck at scripting, always have, so I'm not sure exactly where to start on that front.

I created the first 'hired' dialogue, just to see if I could get him to be 'hired', but when I attempt to engage the NPC in the game, nothing pops up..
I'm thinking I might have to create a quest stage or something, but there were no prior conditions to get that topic...

Well that and none of the custom audio works.
I've tried .ogg and .wav.

I still haven't made any progress on any front on this.
Some of the guides I've found for sound involve Lip Syncing, but they all assume you already Know something about G.E.C.K....

/gah, I still think Morrowinds TES editor was easier to use than Oblivions... I could at least make quests in that one!

I recommend you "start small" to get something working, and then build from there. Have you done the http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/gamesas_Tutorial_Basic_Quest and the more advanced http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/Quest_and_Dialogue_Tutorial? The second one is technically for Oblivion but the concepts are close enough that it is still helpful.

ogg or wav should work. Your problem might be in your folder structure or what you've named them.

There is a better tut, IMO, that you could look at, that you can DL from Nexus. It has stuff about dialogue in it that isn't covered very well elsewhere and has pics of the GECK as it goes along. http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12163.

In the folder structure, under data/sound/voice I have a folder with the name of the mod. (Deekin.esp) in that folder, I have the npcs name there, the Unique ID name. I also have another one, becuase while trying to get the stuff to work, I noticed the 'pathway for the file as the same folder, but instead of the characters unique name it was something else, plus it called for a sound file named "VNPCFollow_FollowersHired_00000AE1_1" even then it didn't work.

I'll try to build up from the dialogue/quest tutorial.

Uggh, followed the tutorial, did everythign listed, and neither the force greeting work, nor the audio.
Mind you, I just substituted Deekin for the 'npc' in that tutorial, started over again.

I did manage, somehow to get Deekin to talk to the PC, but that was a fluke, and involved some random 'greeting' from an angry man voice...
