MOD effect on game/achievements

I've never used MODS before in Fallout. Is there any negative effect on saved games or effect on current achievements? Any risks I should be aware of?

Back in Fallout 3, mods didn't invalidate achievements and only really caused issues when they either conflicted or uninstalled. The worst in the uninstalled part was if you had a perk that was in the uninstalled mod, which would crash the game on load. Otherwise, it just strips items added by the mod if you uninstall, and moves you off to some default cell if you are in a mod added area. Don't know how much has changed for NV, but it's probably pretty close to the same things

Besides this one obviously, no mods shouldn't affect your ability to get achievements. :)

Fallout Script Extender (FOSE) prevented "Games for Windows - LIVE" integration from working and killed achievements in Fallout 3.

There's no equivalent for New Vegas yet, but people are asking for one.

And we're working on one. However, because NV doesn't use GFWL when we ship it shouldn't affect achievements at all.

I'm curious how all this plays out, if I recall correctly, the achievement tracking turned out to be one of the causes of stutter, slowdown and random crashing in FO3 didn't it?

Here we are at another launch plagued by stutter, slowdown and random crashing. There's other factors involved obviously, primarily from a console optimized game using gaming PC's as overpowered, overpriced emulators, but I wonder if the achievement tracking is a factor. I know a lot of my stability issues in FO3 were taken care of by disabling GfWL and Achievement Tracking.

Good news. Have you guys already contacted Valve/Obsidian/Bethesda about it or are you going to wait with that until the first version is done?

We have not contacted them yet. We want the hoopla of launch to die down a little. This also let's us gets some of the basics in place. I imagine we'll try talking with them some time next week.

I am hopeful. Valve provided exactly the support we needed for the steam version of Oblivion. With luck, they'll be willing to provide it again for NVSE.

Good point, they must be pretty busy right now with all kinds of stuff.

Also, I dig the abbreviation NVSE. :D
