After 3 days of frustration and lots of cursing. i decided to reload windows and give it another try, Specs are:
Win 7 64 bit
Gigabyte 890 FX
Phenom 965 @3.6 GHz
8 GB OCZ Flex
EVGA GTX 460
Creative X-Fi Platinum

All I installed was windows and all updates, Trend Micro Internet security Pro and all the latest drivers for MOBO VGA and sound cards. Then Fallout NV. Aside from some graphical glitches and some stutter. The game is very playable, as opposed to the crashes every 2 minutes I was experiencing before. The game is set to ultra high using 5.1 sound. No crashes for the first 45 minutes......keeping my fingers crossed. Will followup with update.

I think it's at least a little crazy to suggest that completely uninstalling and reinstalling your entire OS is a fix to any problem, lol, short of a complete system meltdown/nasty virus, etc. I use my computer for many other purposes besides gaming, and uninstalling my OS just to get this game working is beyond overkill, especially when I'm not experiencing any other issues with my computer or any other piece of software I have installed on my machine.

I totally agree with you. I put it on a separate removable Hard drive, i can swap it out with my regular drive pretty easily. As far as fail.....I spent 6 or more hours trying to get it to work. Installing on a separate drive took about 90 minutes. So now I have my gaming drive......no garbage just the necessary software.

What this new information shows is that not enough people have paid attention to basic trouble shooting for Windows. There's something OUTSIDE of the game and the OS giving trouble, and Clean Boot Diagnostoc Procedures would have been the way to identify whatever it (they) is (are).

right on, what alot of people dont realize is that now days, its easy to get alot of garbage on your computer without you even knowing. This can cause games and other apps to crash unexpectedly. Or it can be as simple as a conflicting piece of software, buggy drivers . Who knows, but a good AV and anti maleware protection is the first step . I usually blame the game last, and do some checks on my system, and update my drivers before i freak.

I completely understand and agree with you. In my case, I assure you my system is clean. I have literally no issues with any other games/programs on my computer, and it's working perfectly fine. I myself work on computers for a living: I know how to solve the kinds of problems that come from quirky, OS-related things. Although I have posted frequently on this forum in the past few days, I have never spent time posting on a tech help forum in the past for any of the dozens upon dozens upon dozens of games I have successfully installed in the past.

I kid you not when I tell you were who are experiencing this problem are neither crazy nor incapable of using our computers correctly. Acting like we're all a bunch of country bumpkins who don't understand how Minesweeper works might also be called "blaming the victims."

Do you think it might of been the fresh install of the latest video drivers for your card? People are always touting that driver cleaner, but i've never trusted it enough to download it. With FO3 i had to go to an older driver for the gtx8800 before it would work without stutter.

No, I manually uninstalled my video drivers. tried the 2 older versions of nvidia drivers I still had as well. It seems pretty clear it was a software conflict for me.
