Does anyone of you play this game Vanilla?

Well, I play it on 360, so I have to play Vanilla. But Mods ruin the game, anyway.

Yup! Ive played the game on the Xbox almost constantly since release and it still never gets old. I actually just bought the game for PC about a week ago, and just started learning about mods.

I cant seem to convince myself to use hugely game-changing mods, however. I seem to only stick to more subtle mods like Streamline, Natural Environments/Faces, and TIE (yes I know thats not very "subtle") . Most others I just end up deleting.

I use pretty standard mods, like quest mods. I don't use overhauls or graphic improvement mods. I admit to using a better water mod, but thats practically it.
I'm running the game with 9 mods atm, I may get more in the future, but not right now.

I played vanilla on PC for a long time, then I added some mods that enriched the experience, then I got the PS3 version and have been playing it recently.

I think the vanilla game is great without mods. Sure, there are a few things here or there that you wish you could change (and you can!), but the core experience is still really good without mods.

That said, mods can greatly add to your gameplay experience. I tend to avoid big overhauls (I still like the original game, don't need to change it into another game, thank you) and lore-unfriendly mods, I like to play with mods that make subtle changes on gameplay -- a mod to denock arrows, another to be able to use alchemy apparatuses without having them on the inventory, among others -- and some cosmetic mods -- better skin textures, different weathers, illumination for windows at night. I try not to go overboard with mods and sometimes it is an exercise in restraint.

I'm a 360 player, so vanilla for me :) There's loads to do in the vanilla game so I'm not too bothered about mods, but if I'm ever able to afford a PC I'll buy Oblivion for it to check them out, as some do seem great (others just seem bizarre to me, but whatever floats your boat!).

Mods make this game way better. I think I played Vanilla for an hour if that. Then Modded it, and enjoyed it way more than Vanilla.

I like to play vanilla. I've personally never felt the need to install any mods.

I find it very playable vanilla on the 360 with a controller in my hand, but I also have also enjoyed mods on the pc (although my computer can barely run it.)

There are so many good mods out there, it's hard to go back. But really I could have fun with vanilla endlessly, and I feel it makes me appreciate the game on another level.

Have been playing it with mods for nearly 1200 hours now.
I would not want to go back to vanilla. too many things that bugged me about it, and now I don't put up with it anymore.

a cosmetic mod and 1 HUD mod - since they are literally just replacing a jpg and a mesh in the data folder.

there's a grass mod that changes the brilliant method of using 16 polygons for grass into 3 with an identical look. this kind of stupidity is unforgivable, esp to crappier computers.

the overhauls feel like cheating. the game always gets easier, and too many optimizations make the game feel smaller. everyone now buys and sells everything, has infinite gold, also repairs, recharges, trains and for 5 gold will relevel you and pole dance. but now you don't need to explore or remember who to talk to; it detracts from the depth of memorizing who does what and their disposition to you, etc.

moreover, the mods are not good for friends. my strategy or spell may work great in my game - but now i can't share it with anyone. these forums, for example. once you get the sword FU, it does 9e99 damage and people who are looking at you also die. it also casts the spell FU that causes all hostiles in the oblivion world to die, and the people who are watching to be suddenly naked. awesome. except nobody cares since that mod eliminates relevance to 99.9% of the already small group that still plays and nobody has the mod to use the sword anyway.

Unless the official DLC and Shivering Isles counts, then I still play the game Vanilla. I don't have much of a choise though, seeing though I play on 360. Still having fun playing without mods though.

I played the vanilla game for about four years. I experimented with mods toward the end

Dropping the mods I didn't like often meant throwing away whole chunks of my character's history because the game expected the mod to be there or else. Unfortunately, most of the beauty mods seemed out of place to me. The flying dragon was great but like most novelties, it wore off fast. The best mod for my taste was a portable campsite. Angel fell in love with that. The Kvatch rebuild looked nice but I stopped playing before the game got to the complete reconstruction. Mainly due to trying to get rid of an annoying mod. It was a pose mod that took on a life of it's own.
