I am no stranger to open world games and I expect imperfections and maybe even A game breaking glitch. Hell, San Andreas was one of my favorite ps2 games and Fallout 3 is one of my favorites of this gen; that should illustrate how tolerant I can be.
This game, has gone so far beyond what could be considered acceptable for a game release. Beta versions are often more polished.
The long list of problems I’ve encountered is in an earlier post and probably needs to be added to even after the patches which seem to have not affected my game much. Of course, by the time the patches had come out, I had already picked up several companions at vault 22 (and one at Elija’s shack), restarted earlier saves to get around locked quests, and dealt with a bunch of other issues.
Needless to say, I really don’t feel like playing through the game again the way I thought I would when I realized how the story missions were structured. But I may do one more quick hardcoe run to see if those patches helped at all and to see if avoiding most of the map will make the game any more playable. My wife (who played Oblivion and Fallout 3 to death) hasn’t played much of this game at all since seeing the frustration I’ve gone through.
When people asked me about Fallout 3, I would go on and on about how it was like playing through a season of the Twilight Zone. When people ask me how New Vegas is, I go on and on about how worried I am about the many time’s I’ve had to hard shut down my ps3. You know that's not good for the machine.
Now, I’m not the type of guy who has an overblown sense of entitlement but I feel that a great disservice has been done to those of us who pre-ordered or paid full price for this game at launch. It’s a mistake that I wont be making again but I’m wondering if Bethesda or Obsidian are planning on doing anything to try and appease the many people who feel the same way I do: that we have been taken advantage of. You knew that because Fallout 3 was widely accepted as one of the best games of this gen that you could rush New Vegas onto shelves without doing the appropriate amount of quality assurance. Well, you had our number but I’m not falling for that one again. I can only hope others will remain cautious too if only to prove that you can’t treat customers that way and expect any sort of brand loyalty.
The other problem is that I can’t imagine what you could give us that would restore my faith. DLC would be a waste: I would be hesitant to try and add anything to this game, even if it was free. I’m already worried about what kind of irreversible damage has been done to my console from all the hard shut-downs. I’m hesitant to put the game back into the machine at all.
Y’know. At this point, I kind of just want my money back but I know that aint going to happen.
IDK – Think of something good and I’ll rent your next title. This is the last one that got an automatic buy.
