This is actually a really good game.

I had been looking for a memorable, "decently-challenging-but-doesn't-get-you-stuck-because-of-dumb-things-that-don't-make-sense", "specs-low-enough-to-run-decently-on-a-computer-that-costs-less-than-over-$1000-or-with-a-graphics-card-that-costs-$500-bucks-by-itself" game for ages, and Call of Cthulhu would be that game. Memorable? Check. Subtle horror? Check. Psychological component? Check. Feeling of claustrophobia? Check.

I must admit that It's getting a little boring aboard the USS Urania, but I've always been a bit bored by boat/ship/marine settings, so I'm sure it will be fine once I get past it.

Playing through Innsmouth is something I will never forget and is one of those rare things in video games that stays with you and makes you say "Wow, that was really quite fun". I really liked the part where you get chased by the fisherman at the end of Innsmouth as well. That was one challenge I really liked xD

Anyway, I just wanted to stop in and say keep up the good work, Bethesda!!! :D

It's a great game, isn't it? :D

Bethesda only published it though, it was (the now unfortunately bankrupt) Headfirst Studios that developed it. They should get the credit. ;)

Sad that Headfirst Studios stopped developing, look what they had in their series, after a google search, I found on their wikipedia article:
Call of Cthulhu: Beyond the Mountains of Madness (cancelled)
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (2005)
Call of Cthulhu: Destiny's End (vaporware)
Call of Cthulhu: Tainted Legacy (cancelled)

Damn, I would've donated them if I knew they were running low on money.

I bought this game ages ago, and I never got around to playing anything but the intro but it was really fun.

Wish it had better widescreen support, but oh well.

I haven't actually seen this game before i'm mostly here for the Elder Scrolls and more importantly Brink but with all the Huge success in the other games like Doom, Brink, Elder Scrolls III-IV, Rage, Fallout3, all of these games look and just plain are amazing so i'm willing too assume the others are great as well.

They can't all be great, but they sure can try like hell.

Edit:Error in spelling.

The game was very fun, and yes the part where the fishermen were after you was one of the most suspenseful parts of a game I had played in a long time.

Right there with you. Definitely not just one of my favorite horror games, but one of the best games of all-time.

Comparing this game to newer games like Amnesia, I think there's really just no comparison as to which one is better.

COC actually had a great plot, which was more or less based on a real Lovecraft novel (Shadow Over Innsmouth) and featured some really innovative psychological effects I had not yet seen in a game.

The "sanity system" in games like Amnesia is purely cosmetical, and contributes nothing to the game, but in COC you have to struggle to keep your character's mind intact or he'll actually lose it and kills himself. I was truly shocked the first time he couged his eyes out and the game was over. Gotta love that.
