i wanna jump off of hoover damn

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 10:23 pm

before i start deleting stuff in the GECK i figured id ask first. does the bottom of the hoover damn have collision or is it just an LOD. i was going to try and remove the invisible barrier that prevents me from doing what should have been obvious to the developers.........how many highrock videos for oblivion were there? but someone over there must have poo pooed that idea.

There is really not a place in this game to Base Jump from. I miss that.

In my real life I have Vertigo (mild fear of heights) and I get a giddy thrill from jumping off of high places in games like this.

So, give us a Lover's Leap. Heck, put a Diving Board there so we can walk out and do a nice Half or Full Gainer as we dive.

Note, there are diving boards in the game, they have no springiness or physics attached to them, but all the same, it would be perfect for this.

You could always type TCL in the console, walk off the side of the thing, and then type TCL again and see how it goes.... :>

i kinda agree, in New Vegas there are simply too many invisible barriers everywhere, they might make sense from a gameplay point of view but they certainly restrict my freedom of movement and are often badly placed in areas you naturally want to wander through... pointless anti-immersive-measures imo

This'd be fun to fix. Where's that NVSE "IsInAir" function when you need it?

There are spots at the Grand Canyon that you can jump from that will certainly kill you. Beyond that I don't think there are any really good places to jump from like Dive Rock was in Oblivion. :sadvaultboy: Who ever said suicide was painless. Kudos if you get the reference.

M.A.S.H. Great show that was. The funniest episode definitely has to be the one with Radar sending a Jeep home part by part :P

Fairly sure it's a LOD at the bottom actually, I've been having issues with textures not showing up in that whole region for a while.

You can swim around the bottom of the damn. I would show you but those screen shots are at home. There is also a fence from the damn side leading into the river under the water. If you go to the lower part of the damn and then go outside you can jump in the water just under the damn.

Yeah I was swimming up the river just the other day and discovered that fence... seemed awfully strange that that fence would be not only there, but solid and in good overall repair...

definitely gonna try swimming around it.

obsidian might be better at game mechanics and dialogue but bethesda takes the cake on world building. there were barriers in fallout 3 but at least they were hidden with debris or a big wall or something. they didnt even bother to hide them in new vegas. im trying to climb up hills and i keep bumping into magic walls and hoover dam was the final straw. im beginning to think that RPG developers are just plain boring people. any normal developer would have assumed that players were going to jump off of it. i think obsidian said that "no serious roleplayer would do that cause it would be out of character". :)

i love the overall game and its better than fallout 3 but some of these world space designs leave me scratching my head. someone released a mod that takes out the barriers in the city of new vegas and it looks tons better. im assuming that it was nerfed in order to work in consoles. sigh

More likely, it's the fact that the game engine doesn't register falling damage when you hit water, so in fact you would most likely survive and be stuck.

What you could do if you want to completely unblock it from top and bottom though is set up some collision boxes at the level of the water that are triggered only for X number of seconds by trigger boxes covering the area ~halfway up the dam. You'd also want to force the collision boxes off a fraction of a second after impact with another set of trigger boxes at water level, so the body would sink and also just to catch any weird circumstances.

I use my Hoverboard whenever I get too tired of invisible walls or chainlink fences, as it simply ignores them.
