Making Sideburns pack work with Ling's

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 3:47 am

I found http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35994#fileanchor a while ago, but held off on downloading for some reason. Then I got Ling's Coiffure, and loved it for my female character. Now I'm playing another male one though, and while I'm using vanilla hair and facial hair on him, I'm using eyes from Ling's.

So here's my question, I'm assuming I can make these two mods work together, how would I do that? Note that I have almost no experience with Wrye Bash or whatever the anologue for New Vegas is, I do know how to handle the GECK though, and FOMM obviously, and I will put in the effort to learn how Bash works if I'll need that.

So, can anyone help me out here? I was thinking of how Ling's and the sideburns pack should have a compatability patch or something, but if that never happens, I'd like to try doing it myself. If it works out and I get permission, I'd be happy to release it as well.

FNVEdit's merged patch should do that automatically, just load all mod files with it, right click on the modlist and select "Create Merged Patch".

Wrye Flash can also do it too, tag Lings with "hair" and "eyes" (right-click on the lower right corner in the box under "Bash Tags:" and check the "hair" and "eyes" tags from the list that appears), and the beard mod with ..."R.Head" i think? Or possibly "R.Mouth"? After that rebuild the patch (right click on Bashed patch and select "Rebuild Patch") and check the "Race Records" box, and the mods under it.

About FNVEdit. When you say load all mod files, I assume you mean all relevant mod files right? As in, just the Lings esm. and the sideburn esp.?

IF you load all files it merges other stuff that's mergeable too, but if you only want the hair and sideburns, choosing only those two should work. Also once it done check the contents of it, make sure it has race records. With my current load order FNVedit creates an empty patch, i need to use the bashed patch instead to merge some companion altering mods.

Ah, so if I load all the mods I have, it won't actually merge everything, just the files that relate to eachother?

Yes, it finds mergeable records by itself. As i said, my current load order produces an empty patch.

Ah alright then, I'll give that a shot, thanks.

Doing a backup of my Data folder...the damn thing is 9GB :P

EDIT: It worked!
